GIDG Meets Tomorrow at 9:00 am


The Global Issues Discussion Group (GIDG) will meet tomorrow (Monday, February 10) in Room 203/204 at the Saugatuck Congregational Church at 9:00 am.


In its last session, the Group agreed to discuss the issues with Germany and France as the relationship with the US becomes strained. However, Group leaders agreed subsequently to include some time near the end of the meeting to discuss the current situation with Canada, Mexico and China due to the new tariffs. 


"Keep your eyes on the news," says GIDG Moderator Frank Wood. "See you Monday.".

Spanish-American War Topic of Military Discussion Group


The topic for the Military Discussion Group tomorrow will be the Spanish-American War. The Group meets at 10:00 am Monday, February 10 in its usual room (across from Room 203/204) at the Saugatuck Congregational Church

The Y's Men Breakfast Club 2025

Another Y's Men Social Event


Tuesday, February 11th, 2025 at 8:00 am.


Join us for breakfast at The Original Pancake House in Westport.


The cost is an amazing $12.50 per person with tax and tip included. Pay by credit card by clicking on the link below or send a check made out to Y's Men of Westport/Weston and mail to Y's Men, PO Box 167, Westport, CT 06880.


A few rules apply. You must keep to the menu which is already robust.

You will be treated to coffee or tea, two eggs any style, three fluffy pancakes, 1/2 order of meat (bacon, patties, links).


The restaurant is on the 2nd floor. For those who prefer it, 

there is a lift going up. Note that we still have a few tickets left.


The breakfast starts at 8:00 am. You must have a ticket to get in. No payments will be taken at the door.

Y's Men Mindfulness Group Meets Mondays by Zoom


The Y's Men Mindfulness Group meets every Monday at 7:30 pm by Zoom. If you would like to attend or obtain information about the Group, contact Harvey Luft at harveyluft@gmail.com or Paul Epstein at epsteinmb@aol.com.


Harvey and Paul also can provide access to reviewing and reading material from previous meetings and discussions.

Life Talk Group Meets This Tuesday at 2:00 pm


The Y's Men Life Talk Group will meet this Tuesday, February 11 at 2:00 pm in Rooms 109-110 at the Saugatuck Congregational Church. The meetings last from one to one and a half hours.


The topic on Tuesday will be "Moments of Truth" — a discussion of times in your life when you were faced with making critical decisions about an event that changed what you did, how you did it, or with whom. What emerged for you? What was the impact of those moments?

Y's Men Jazz Lunch Set For Wednesday, February 12


The February Y's Men Jazz Lunch will be at noon on Wednesday, February 12 at the Westport VFW on Riverside Avenue.


Featured on the big screen will be Jazz piano and big band legends such as Dave Brubeck, Erroll Garner, Count Basie, Stan Kenton and more. Biographical sketches will also be presented for each performer.


The buffet lunch will again be provided by Calise's. Cost is $25.00 per person, pay there.

Y's Men Annual Chinese New Year Celebration February 18

Another Y's Men Social Event has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 18 at 6:00 pm when Y's Men will celebrate the Year of the Snake. The event will be held at Ginkgo Sichuan in Fairfield.


The menu consists of Hot and Sour Soup, Spring Rolls and Steamed Dumplings to start. Main courses are Peking Duck, Orange Beef, Chicken in Garlic Sauce, Ginger Flavored Shrimp, and Sautéed Green Beans. The price is $50.00 per person. Bring your own wine. Luncheon for New Members Scheduled for February 27


A luncheon for new members of Y's Men will be held on Thursday, February 27 at Gabriel's Italian Steakhouse of Westport, 27 Powers Court, beginning at noon.


The event provides an opportunity to meet fellow new members, connect with the Y's Men leadership team, learn about Y's Men activities, trips, and events, and find ways to become involved. Following the luncheon, attendees are invited to a comprehensive backstage tour of the Westport Country Playhouse next door to the restaurant.

The Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service needs more community members who are willing to step up and join them in saving lives on the ambulance. Please click below to add your name to our interest list so that you're notified when the next class is opening for registration.

Staples Chamber Orchestra to Perform for Y's Men March 4

The Staples Stradivarius Chamber Orchestra will perform for Y's Men March 4.


One of Staples High School’s elite musical ensembles will perform a free concert on Tuesday, March 4 in the Saugatuck Congregational Church Sanctuary, beginning at 2:45 pm. The concert serves as the March meeting of the Y’s Men Classical Music Society.


The Stradivarius Chamber Orchestra is an advanced, by-audition ensemble open to all Staples High School string players currently enrolled in the high school’s orchestra programs. Candidates must audition each spring for the following school year’s ensemble, whether they were part of the previous year’s ensemble or not. 

Y's Men Sponsor Paul Shaffer at VersoFest

On Sunday, April 6, at 11:00 am, as part of The Westport Library’s four-day celebration of music, media, and creativity, VersoFest 2025 will bring together Paul Shaffer with The Beehive Queen, Christine Ohlman.


The event, sponsored by the Y's Men, will be held in The Westport Library's Trefz Forum. Tickets are $25.00. All ticket revenue goes to support The Westport Library.

Shaffer served for years as Music Director of the David Letterman Show as well as being Music Director of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There will be a piano on stage and music will be played. Y's Men attendees will be treated to a private reception with Paul before the show with bagels, cream cheese, and coffee.


The general public will be offered coffee and donuts provided by the Y's Men at 11:00 am and the program begins at 11:30 am on stage.


The program will feature Shaffer delivering his unique mix of music, comedy, and entertainment. He will be joined by the iconic Beehive Queen Christine Ohlman, who will host the conversation fresh off her appearance at the Library for her annual Winter Dance Party with her band, Rebel Montez.

Y's Man and Attorney Ken Bernhard talked to the Y's Men on Thursday, January 30 about "The 2nd Amendment: How 240 years of settled law became today’s controversy."

Y's Man John Bett Passes Away at 91

John Bett


Y's Man John Bett passed away at Danbury Hospital on Friday, January 24. He was 91 and had joined the Y's Men in October 2022.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 11:00 am at the Saugatuck Congregational Church. The service will be streamed for those unable to attend. Contact alisonbetthartmann@yahoo.com the day before the service to receive the link.


According to John's daughter, Alison Hartmann, John came to Westport in 2022 and was very grateful for the fellowship and activities the Y's Men provided to a newcomer. "Many thanks for giving him a home here," she wrote.
