Thursday Morning Social Hour Continues at Sherwood Island
The social hour beginning at 9:00 am is a highlight of the Y's Men meetings on Thursday mornings prior to the business meeting and guest speaker. This is when Y's Men convene for coffee, donuts, bagels and conversation from September through May at the Saugatuck Congregational Church.
Now that the business and guest speaker portions of the meeting are on summer hiatus, the social hour continues from 9:00 am to 10:00 am every Thursday at the Sherwood Island Pavilion.
Coffee, donuts and bagels will be available beginning at 9:00 am every Thursday through August 29. Following the social hour, a walking group forms to tour Sherwood Island

Y's Men Tennis Players View AED Demonstration
They are all around town. There is even one in Hoskins Hall at the Church where we meet. But how many know how they function or how to use them?
"They" are AEDs -- Automated External Defibrillators that can shock your heart back to normal if needed.
To familiarize at least one group of very active Y's Men with AEDs, Past President Dewey Loselle, chair of summer tennis, with the help of Y's Man and Community Relations Chair Jim Marpe, arranged for a demonstration following play at Longshore this past Friday.
Representatives from the Westport Fire Department and the Emergency Medical Service showed the group two different types of defibrillators and how to operate them. A number of questions were answered.
"I feel much more confident now in how to use an AED, "Dewey commented after the session. Some speculated that a demonstration for a wider group of Y's Men this summer or fall would be valuable.

Tuesday Evening Picnics Underway at Compo Beach
The traditional Y's Men Tuesday evening picnics at Compo Beach began last week and will continue through the summer.
Arranged by Y's Man Jon Fox, the gatherings take place on South Beach "642 feet to the right of the cannons." There is no need for a beach sticker. Simply tell them at the entrance that you are attending the Y's Men picnic. It begins about 4:30 to 5:00 pm. Bring your own chairs, finger food and your choice of beverage perhaps to share (no glass containers are allowed).
If weather is bad (too hot, too cold, rainy), Jon says, "Stay home. Otherwise, just come and enjoy." If additional information is needed, contact Jon by clicking here.
