Celebration of Y's Man Leonard Everett Fisher's
Life Set for June 24
A celebration of Leonard Everett Fisher's life will be held on Monday, June 24 at The Westport Library from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, according to a posting in "06880."
Len passed away on Saturday, March 2. He was 99 and had been a Y's Man since 2004.
Hailed as a "Westport icon," Len was an artist well known for illustrating children's books. Starting in 1955, he illustrated about 250 books for young readers including about 88 that he also wrote. In the Y's Men, he was best known for designing the organization's Memorial Day float that consistently won the "best float" award.
The date of June 24 is special. It would have been Len's 100th birthday.
Donations in his and his wife's name can be made to "Margery & Leonard Everett Fisher Endowment for Children's Books in the Arts," c/o The Westport Library, 20 Jesup Road, Westport, CT 06880.

Tuesday Evening Picnics at Compo Begin Tuesday, May 28
Besides the Annual Hot Dog Roast scheduled for Tuesday, July 23 (see listing above under Future Social Events), the traditional Y's Men Tuesday evening picnics at Compo Beach will begin May 28 (the day after Memorial Day).
Arranged by Y's Man Jon Fox, the gathering takes place on South Beach "642 feet to the right of the cannons." There is no need for a beach sticker. Simply tell them at the entrance that you are attending the Y's Men picnic. It begins about 4:30 to 5:00 pm. Bring your own chairs, finger food and your choice of beverage perhaps to share (no glass containers are allowed).
If weather is bad (too hot, too cold, rainy), Jon says, "Stay home. Otherwise, just come and enjoy." If additional information is needed, contact Jon by clicking here.

Boating Underway for "The Ancient Mariners"
Prior to Covid the Y’s Men had an active boating group known as “The Ancient Mariners.”
They held weekly local sailing or power boating events and less frequent overnight or multi-day trips to other destinations.
They also organized occasional off-season sailing charters in the British Virgin Islands or as far away as Croatia.
Several Y's Men are interested in restarting the Ancient Mariner Program but more boaters and boats are needed to reach the critical mass that will be required.
They are inviting Y's Men to join them and would like to hear from you.
If you own a boat and are interested in participating, but haven’t already been in touch, please contact Y's Man George Kalan via email at gkalan@optonline.net.
