Community Honoree Sophia Penning
Sophia Penning was raised in Clearwater, Florida, and graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Education. She moved to Pennsylvania over 28 years ago and found her spiritual home at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. She served on various boards and ministries, including P.T.O., Parish Council, Homeless Ministry, and as a Catechism teacher, ultimately becoming a team leader for Matthew 25. She strives to live by Christ's teachings, often saying, ”When God speaks, I need to listen,” which motivates her to aid the hungry and less fortunate.
She has been blessed with her husband of almost 35 years, Russ, and adult children Anna, Andrew, Ava, and her new son-in-law, Drew. Her eldest Anna was married this past July in Greece, and that made for an unforgettable summer.
Sophia will continue to apply what she has been taught and be a positive role model both to her church and community.

Renovation Update
by Dean Dalson
Dear Parishioners,
Here is an update on renovation progress and upcoming work:
- During the weeks of November 10 and 17, we will be re-paving the back parking lot (Elkins Avenue entrance). This includes removing the existing paving, regrading the base, and then applying 2 coats of new asphalt, new parking lot lines, handicapped parking lines, and signs. The majority of the work will occur between Wednesday, November 12, and Wednesday, November 19, weather permitting. If the entrances to that parking lot are blocked by orange cones, please do not enter the parking lot and use the main lot with the entrance on Route 611.
- The church's lighting systems are complete. I hope you can now appreciate the brighter environment, the fresh paint, and the colors of the beautiful iconography and brickwork.
- The exterior stairs to the kitchen are progressing nicely. Interior drywall and the first coat of exterior stucco have been applied. Lighting and fire alarm equipment installation are next, and the stairs should be available for use in the next 1-2 weeks.
- The main interior work remaining is completing the Philoptochos room, including rebuilding one exterior wall and installing a new window and new lighting fixtures. Once the new window is delivered, this work will occur over the next few weeks.
- All items temporarily stored in outside containers have been moved back into the building. We ask for everyone’s cooperation and patience while we sort out where items get stored. We will need to live with the new storage spaces for a while and figure out how best to store everything.
Thank you again for your support and patience. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions.

Our new church directory will help members know each other better and serve as a great gift for new members, helping them quickly connect with their church family.
There will be no outside portrait company involved, and it will be free for you. A photo booth will be available on several Sundays in November and December in our church hall, and volunteer photographers will take your picture.
The directory will include all parishioners who have been supporting stewards of Annunciation from 2023 to 2025. If you do not submit a family picture, you will still be included unless you choose to opt out.
We will share detailed information as soon as our volunteer team is assembled, including a schedule for picture-taking and an opt-out form if needed.
Help Needed:
We need a few volunteers to help with the Church Directory. Tasks include:
- setting up a photo booth on several Sundays in November and December in the hall,
- taking pictures of parishioners with any good camera of your choice,
- uploading photos to a shared OneDrive folder, and uploading photos to each family’s profile in PowerChurch, our parish management system (remote capability).
For more information or to offer your help, please contact George Dalagelis at office@anngoc.org or call (215) 635-0316.

Names will be kept on this list for approximately three months. Please resubmit Names if needed. Fr. John will include the submitted names at the Psokomide “Offering of Gifts” during the Matins when he prepares the mystical gifts of bread & wine. Our Prayer Partners Ministry members pray for these persons daily. Please also lift these names to the Lord in your personal prayer life.
Prayer for healing: Heavenly Father, physician of our souls and bodies, who has sent our Lord to heal every sickness. Visit and heal us. Grant patience in this sickness, strength of body and spirit, and health recovery. Lord, You have taught us to pray for each other that we may be healed. We pray that You heal, guide, and protect your servants (pray by name for those who are sick) and grant them the gift of complete health. You are the source of healing, and to You we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
