Jordan Casteel: Returning the Gaze will feature nearly 30 paintings by Denver-born artist Jordan Casteel, who is now based in Harlem, New York. This presentation represents Casteel’s first major museum exhibition, and provides audiences with a first look at new work by one of the most acclaimed emerging artists working today.
The exhibition will bring together a body of work made from 2014 to 2018, with new paintings that reveal Casteel’s evolving practice and a shift in subject matter ranging from cityscapes and subway scenes to women and local business owners. Casteel’s approach to selecting subjects involves walking around her neighborhood and taking photographs. By transforming these photographs into larger-than-life portraits with subtle shifts in light, bold colors, and gestural brushwork, Casteel reveals individuals and atmospheres that often go unnoticed.

Thru Aug 24| 10:00 am - 6 pm | Museo de las Americas | Gen. Adm.
Liminal Space is a transitional or transformative space. A waiting area between one point in time and space and the next. Just like how our cultures and communities are diverse and varied, so too is the beautiful, enchanting and creative history of art. Thankfully being Latino isn't just a singular experience and in this exhibition you will see how these creative local artists are taking the knowledge and tradition of the past and its experiences and transforming our perceptions about cultural interpretations and identities into something that is new and original.
In this exhibition, the artists and their creative vision represent a basis of exploration for the audience's own Liminal Space, through which they develop a sense of their own experience and interpretation. It is easy to fall under the illusion that looking at art is a simple thing. However, the work in this show is not about what are you looking at but what is it you see.

Looking at your scene partner and deciding right away that they’re the most important person in your character’s life is a great place to start from when thinking about “relationship” in improvisation. The challenge is to avoid talking about what you’re doing and instead focus on how you’re feeling to sustain a strong relationship onstage. This workshop will help you make quick, specific choices about how well you know the other person so the audience understands why these characters are together. We’ll explore different “types” of relationships we’ve often seen in improv and discover new options to explore these characters in a dynamic way.
Carla Cackowski is an improviser, writer, podcaster, and nap-lover. She toured all over Europe, Alaska, and the Caribbean performing comedy with The Second City. She’s a member of SAG-AFTRA and has done voiceover work on shows for ABC Family, TBS, and Disney. When they’re not touring their two person improv show “Orange Tuxedo”, she and her husband Craig Cackowski co-host a podcast called “Craig’s List”. Most recently, Carla has written for sketch shows on PBS Kids and Dreamworks TV. She taught improvisation and directed sketch shows at The Second City Hollywood for eight years before relocating to the Pacific Northwest to accept the position of Co-Artistic Director at Curious Comedy Theater for a year. Things To Do Outdoors
Aug 2-3 l 5:00 am l Ft. Collins to Steamboat Springs
Colorado is home to some of the most inspiring landscapes in the country. With mountains that reach to the sky, rushing rivers, and starry nights like you’ve never seen, the Centennial state is a runner’s dream – and you have the chance to experience it like you never have before!
The Wild West Relay starts in the foothills of beautiful Fort Collins before sending runners deep into the heart of the Rocky Mountains. This scenic and remote course takes athletes over two mountain passes and through three national forests before reaching the finish line in the idyllic ski town of Steamboat Springs. Along the way you’ll pass picture perfect mountain communities, working ranches, and the jaw-dropping vistas that typify the American west. You’ll run on dirt roads and under starry skies and when you and your team cross the finish line at the Steamboat Springs ski resort, you’ll be rewarded with a cold beer and an even colder dip in the Yampa River that winds its way right through town.

Aug 3 l 6:00 am l Cherry Creek State Park
The first leg of the Tri is always the swim. A standard format for triathlons, athlete enter the water first for safety reasons. Entering the water when you are the most strong and have not needed to recoup from any other athletic exertion. Safety first = water first. The swim portion is 750 meters, which is 1/2 mile.
Being an all-female Sprint Distance Tri - we are made of the most compassionate and caring gang of ladies you will ever meet! While still competitive, a majority of our athletes are truly racing the clock or against themselves. But, in the traditional Tri world, the bike portion comes next for safety; athletes are semi-fresh and not near the peak of their endurance. The bike portion is 20 km, which is about 12.4 miles.
Or walk. The last leg of the triathlon is the run because it is where you get your moment of glory. Sprint to the finish line, ham for the cam, wave to our pit crew. And, should you need us, our pit crew can reach you easily. Finally, it is easier to put a medal around the neck of a runner than a biker! The run/walk portion is 5k, which is 3.1 miles.
