As our nation’s leadership shifts its environmental priorities from protection to exploitation, it is critical, now more than ever, for citizens to appreciate and explore the treasured landscapes that have inspired inhabitants of our continent for centuries. To that end, artist Topher Straus chose to use the vast National Park system, established 150 years ago, as a blueprint for his unconventional representational landscapes featured in a new exhibit at Niza Knoll Gallery entitled “The Parks”.
Straus highlights popular vistas through spectacular 30” x 60” paintings on metal with the goal of providing a personal and rich experience for the viewer, much like when visiting the parks themselves. The show runs January 11 through February 16, 2019 at 915 Santa Fe Drive with the public invited to view and purchase work at an Artist’s reception during the Third Friday Art Walk on January 18, 5-8 pm and during regular gallery Winter hours, Wednesday through Saturday 1-4 pm, First and Third Friday 4-8 pm and by appointment.

Lakewood, CO-- Following the sold-out run of Nourishment (what does it feel like to grow up?) in Denver, CO in May 2018, Gwendolyn&Guests is thrilled to announce the world premiere of their new Nourishment production, centered on the question: Why Believe? Nourishment will premiere and run on February 8-10, 2019, at MOVE! in Lakewood, Colorado. Nourishment is an evening length performance experience aimed at provoking all five senses, through the collaboration of dance, live music, theater, storytelling, new media, set design, food and drinks.
This chapter of Nourishment delves into a myriad of questions and feelings surrounding belief, religion, afterlife, spirit and soul. When does belief divide us and when does it bring us together? In today’s world as well as many other times in our history, it can seem that beliefs do more dividing than bringing together. “Why Believe?” explores what it means to believe in something, what it feels like to lose faith, and if the act of believing even matters at all.

Featuring two unrehearsed performers who have never met, Celebration, Florida by Greg Wohead is a quietly surreal show for anyone who has ever missed anyone or anything.
Veering between reality and simulation, Celebration, Florida orbits around ideas of surrogacy; a stand-in to replace a person you miss, a re-creation of an experience you can't stop thinking about, nostalgia for a place that perhaps never existed.
Greg will speak to the audience through two performers using pre-recorded audio and headphones. They will know almost nothing about the show when they walk onstage.

Le Théâtre du Grand-Guignol was a Victorian theatre in Paris that specialized in showcasing the most stylized, gory and shocking horror theatre in the world. Founded in melodrama, the Grand Guignol’s plays were meant to stun and terrorize audiences; and the theatre even boasted an on-staff doctor to resuscitate victimized patrons. Our fourth presentation of Grand Guignol will showcase two timeless scripts originally performed in the 1900's, revived for a second life in Denver with a Valentine’s Day twist and underscored with live music by George Sepmeier.

Satchmo is the latest sensation to hit the entertainment scene today! Virtuoso trumpeter Dean Simms, as Satchmo, is the leader of this awesome band. Along with his Uncanny re-creation of Louis Armstrong, Dean has performed or recorded lead trumpet with many famous acts, such as the Ohio Players, Rick James Stone City Band, Peabo Bryson, Little Anthony, Roger Troutman, and many more. Satchmo’s plays trumpet like the master himself, and matches his singing style exactly as well as his playing, showmanship and on-stage persona! When Satchmo performs, astonished fans are in amazement, “When I close my eyes I hear Satchmo”! They do a double take to see if it’s a Armstrong recording, or is it really Simms singing. Happening right before their very eyes, the spirit of Louis Armstrong’s likeness is actually being manifested!

Steen is also part of a musical dynasty, with relatives including vocalist Dianne Reeves, pianist George Duke, saxophonist Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, and bassist Charlie Burrell.

It is rare to find a vocal artist who can maneuver between genres while maintaining a genuine authenticity of each and the integrity of her own voice. Spanning from classical to gospel to jazz through to rock, blues, pop, funk and soul, JoFoKe (bka Joslyn Ford-Keel) is such a vocalist who does this with ease. Fabled to have been born with microphone in-hand on a snowy Denver evening, she was raised engrossed in performing and worship artistry by her classically trained, jazz pianist father, choir director mother and all around artsy blended family. This eclectic artist grew up active in music, theater and dance but, perhaps the greatest impressions were left when she was given a chance to “sit-in” with her family and friends’ bands, vocal groups and orchestras. JoFoKe (pronounced: Joh-Foh-Kee) emerged on the professional Colorado music scene as a teen and, because of her sophisticated musical ear, attention to detail, and ability to effectively adapt her sound to most styles of music, she was quickly dubbed a “chameleon”. Having spent nearly 20 years as a session vocalist, artists consultant, clinician and in other support capacities within the music industry, JoFoKe is currently a highly sought after singer, songwriter, arranger and vocal producer.
