A river of beer flows through Colorado's past.
Back in the gold rush, saloons weren't just saloons. They were post
offices, restaurants, hotels, and social clubs. But then Colorado banned alcohol—four years before Prohibition hit the rest of the country. By the 1970s, beer was big business again—really big business. Now, homebrewers have gone pro and it seems like there's a brewery on every corner.
All of this making you thirsty for more? Come explore our brewing past, present, and future. See beer-brewing equipment from then to now, a massive bottle-breaker from Prohibition days, the nation's first aluminum beer cans, and a wealth of other artifacts from our state's hoppy history .

Jordan Casteel: Returning the Gaze will feature nearly 30 paintings by Denver-born artist Jordan Casteel, who is now based in Harlem, New York. This presentation represents Casteel’s first major museum exhibition, and provides audiences with a first look at new work by one of the most acclaimed emerging artists working today.
The exhibition will bring together a body of work made from 2014 to 2018, with new paintings that reveal Casteel’s evolving practice and a shift in subject matter ranging from cityscapes and subway scenes to women and local business owners. Casteel’s approach to selecting subjects involves walking around her neighborhood and taking photographs. By transforming these photographs into larger-than-life portraits with subtle shifts in light, bold colors, and gestural brushwork, Casteel reveals individuals and atmospheres that often go unnoticed.

Thru Aug 24| 10:00 am - 6 pm | Museo de las Americas | Gen. Adm.
Liminal Space is a transitional or transformative space. A waiting area between one point in time and space and the next. Just like how our cultures and communities are diverse and varied, so too is the beautiful, enchanting and creative history of art. Thankfully being Latino isn't just a singular experience and in this exhibition you will see how these creative local artists are taking the knowledge and tradition of the past and its experiences and transforming our perceptions about cultural interpretations and identities into something that is new and original.
In this exhibition, the artists and their creative vision represent a basis of exploration for the audience's own Liminal Space, through which they develop a sense of their own experience and interpretation. It is easy to fall under the illusion that looking at art is a simple thing. However, the work in this show is not about what are you looking at but what is it you see.

Perhaps best known as the comedian who puts the cerebral in Cerebral Palsy, Josh Blue centers much of his self-deprecating act around his disability. He exploded onto the national comedy scene by capturing the attention and endearment of the country as the winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Josh starred in Comedy Central Presents: Josh Blue, which received rave reviews from fans and critics alike.
Josh debuted a one-hour special on Showtime, Sticky Change, where he tells stories about everything from being a white African-American, to dealing with cabbies who think he'll pay in sticky change. In 2016, Josh released his third one-hour special, DELETE, available on Hulu and Amazon, in which he explains why you shouldn’t call disabled people “inspirational”.
He has appeared twice on Ron White’s Comedy Salute to the Troops on CMT and made his late-night television debut on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. He most recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC.

I think of this album like a bunch of abstract paintings, says Ghost Lights Tom Hamilton. We present the songs as a series meant to be experienced in a certain order, but at the end of the day, whatever that series makes you feel is totally up to you. In that sense, Ghost Lights brilliant debut album, Best Kept Secrets, functions much like the band itself, drawing beauty and strength from both its complementary pairings and its unexpected juxtapositions. Formed in 2017, the group brings together five consummately talented artists from across the musical spectrumguitarists/singers Tom Hamilton and Raina Mullen, pianist Holly Bowling, and drummer Scotty Zwangand thrusts them into a wholly new context. The result is a record that transcends the sonic contributions and background of any single member, a collection thats at once gritty and refined, sprawling and restrained, straightforward and psychedelic.Though the performances on the album are laser focused, the groups live shows are a far looser affair, with tracks frequently blossoming into extended improvisational journeys dictated by the emotional temperature of the room on any given night. Songs turn into wordless conversations between all five members, a tide-like give-and-take that makes each show wholly engrossing and utterly unique. An album isa document and snapshot of a particular moment in time, Hamilton told Live For Live Music in a recent interview, but when it comes to taking that album and bringing it into the live arena, thats when we turn ourselves back into the improvisers that we all are. We get to really see what these songs can do and where they can go.With a formidable live reputation already preceding them, the band sold out the opening night of their inaugural tour and they haven't looked back since, playing a slew of headline dates around the country in addition to entrancing festival crowds from Lockn to High Sierra, Peach Music Festival, Electric Forest, and beyond.

Boozy Take on the Bard’s Greatest Romance
Fans of Drunk History and all its slurred education will fall over laughing at Sh*t-Faced Shakespeare, where an entirely serious Shakespeare play is performed with one entirely inebriated cast member. For the last eight years, Sh*t-Faced Shakespeare has been performed in the darkest corners and diviest bars in the U.K., and the cast is now bringing the good time to Austin. Side-splitting, raucous and completely interactive, this show enjoyed sell-out runs at the Edinburgh and Brighton Fringe festivals, where a cast member drinks beer, wine and whiskey on stage, drunkenly sings the Dawson’s Creektheme song and occasionally (accidentally, of course) bares a nipple or two. Brush up on your Bard knowledge and head over to Spider House for a drunken twist on Romeo and Juliet, because this is Shakespeare as you never knew you wanted to see him before

This journey is full of breath-taking panoramas across the Arkansas River Valley and humorous narratives about Leadville's colorful past. Mining and railroading were a large part of the local history, and today's passengers will find it easy to step back in time on the Leadville, Colorado & Southern.
