Art & Museum Exhibits
Thru May 26 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Museum of Contemporary Art | Gen. Adm.
Aftereffect: Georgia O'Keeffe and Contemporary Painting brings together a select group of artists whose work resonates with that of Georgia O'Keeffe. From her formal innovations, to her ambition to transcribe her ideas and emotions, to her distinctive approach to abstraction and the landscape of New Mexico, O'Keeffe's legacy is identifiable in the work of several generations of painters. These artists share her interest in capturing what Jerry Saltz refers to as the "objective and subjective all at once." That is, in their art, the physical world is neither subjected to, nor victorious over the imagination of the artist, but rather, the two are continuously at play.

Thru May 26 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | MCA Denver -Museum of Contemporary Art Denver | Gen. Adm.
Since completing his MFA at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2014, Jensdotter has honed a process that synthesizes abstraction and figuration: over a period of months, he paints layers of representational imagery, each layer successively obscuring the others, then meticulously cuts into the built-up surface to create a variegated field of color. It is his singular process that defines these "carved paintings."
In addition to several of these carved works, Flak features a group of new paintings that further Jensdotter's experimentation with figuration and abstraction and additive and subtractive methods. He makes these new works by building up layers of paint via a repetitive transfer technique, using large sheets of inexpensive plastic and canvas. The results of the new process are jagged, violent, and emotional abstractions that contrast the painstakingly composed, pseudo-organic carved works.

Thru May 26 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Longmont Museum | Gen. Adm.
The Ansel Adams: Early Works exhibit at the Longmont Museum focuses on the photographer’s masterful small prints taken earlier in his career, from the 1920s into the 1950s.
By capturing the abject power of nature, Adams changed our understanding of landscape photography, solidifying it as a legitimate form of modern art.

Thru Jul 14 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art | Gen. Adm.
Kirkland Museum is pleased to feature a retrospective of Barbara Locketz (1927–2017), whose artworks include oil paintings, prints, paper and metal collage, metal and acrylic sculpture, jewelry and textiles. She was a student of Vance Kirkland while completing her MA at the University of Denver and later taught there from 1964 to 1971. She exhibited her work throughout Colorado and the American Southwest, New York and Mexico.

Thru Aug 16 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | CU South Denver | Gen. Adm.
In the wild world around us, everything is connected. Curious Connections in Nature delves into these connections through hands-on activities, multi-media displays and specimens from the Museum's collection.
The exhibition highlights symbiosis in our bodies, our backyards and beyond.
Discover the role of the prairie dog in Colorado's grasslands. Learn about the microbes we host in our bodies. Explore the amazing world of lichens, diatoms, and much more. The scientists who study these animals are profiled in the exhibit and you can learn about their important work.

Thru Dec 9 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Denver Museum of Nature & Science | Gen. Adm.
Volcanoes tower 80,000 feet above a barren surface. Monstrous hurricanes rage for 400 years. And multicolored rings sit suspended in air.
In Cosmic Journey: A Solar System Adventure, you'll travel through our solar system faster than the speed of light, taking in the wonders of the planets and their moons.

Thru Dec 12 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Denver Museum of Nature & Science | Gen. Adm.
There's a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end. It's at this point, inside this fantastic riddle, that black holes exert their sway over the cosmos … and our imaginations.
In this Museum-produced show, zip through other-worldly wormholes, experience the creation of the Milky Way Galaxy, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Mathematical equations, cutting-edge science, and Einstein's theories fill in holes along the way, providing the most complete picture yet on this mysterious phenomenon. Can you feel the pull?

Thru Dec 31 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center | Gen. Adm.
The art works presented in three galleries highlight some of the most celebrated work by indigenous and Latina/o artists in the FAC’s permanent collection. Within an overall chronological flow, the galleries focus on three periods of time spanning over 150 years: mid-19th Century, 1930s, and late 20th century to the present. This exhibition explores individual stylistic movements, artists, and topics such as colonial encounters, art markets, and creative innovation, among other subjects. Art works in these galleries will be periodically rotated in an effort to feature a wide range of artworks from the FAC’s extensive collection.

For the people of Reading, Pennsylvania, work is so much more than a paycheck – it’s the glue that holds the town together. The floor of their central factory is where lifelong friendships are made, where love blossoms and where family members work side-by-side. But as layoffs become the new norm and a cheaper workforce threatens the viability of the local union, the threads that once kept the community together begin to fray.
Sweat is an “extraordinarily moving drama” (The New York Times) that powerfully contrasts life’s happiest highs with the heart-wrenching struggles of survival. Using warm humor and deep empathy, this 2017 Pulitzer Prize winner from Lynn Nottage (Ruined) paints a moving portrait of today’s working-class America in decline.

Thru May 24 | Varies |Boulder's Dinner Theatre
Our 'Kids Kabaret' shows are designed for children ages 3-12. We take pride in offering live theater for young children; understanding that they will wiggle and move around. Several children are incorporated into the show at each performance.

The Love and Violence Trilogy is 3 short plays, written by Luke Gomez, that explore relationships and the thin line between love and the darker side of attraction. Sometimes you have to fulfill bizarre last wishes. Sometimes you have to force answers from someone who won't share. Sometimes personal sacrifice in the name of love can go a bit too far. We invite the audience to ponder it all in The Love and Violence Trilogy: "The Ballad of Ahab Jones", "A Prayer for My Fetish"and "Boxcutters and Bubblegum". A dark comedy directed by Franc Gaxiola and Bruce Laks.

Thru May 26 | Varies |Vintage Theatre - Stage 1 Jeffery Nickelson Auditorium

Be it by fate or chance, the path of your journey lies in a shuffle. As you have your cards interpreted by a guide, you'll open your eyes to the ways your path has led you to this moment and the events where a single choice could change your future. Bring a small token from your life that you would like to pass on to another audience member at the end of the experience.

“There’s no place like home,” Dorothy said, but in actuality there’s no place like Oz. Combine every fairyland from Narnia to Middle-Earth to Wonderland, and you’d still have only a quarter of Oz’s magic with its yellow brick road, flying monkeys and Great and Powerful Wizard. Now you can visit yourself, courtesy of an exciting production of The Wizard of Oz from Jesters Dinner Theater in Longmont. When a Kansas cyclone carries off young Dorothy and her little dog Toto, the pair land in Oz (and atop a witch). Encountering a Cowardly Lion, a Tin Man and a Scarecrow, they travel the magical countryside searching for the wizard who can make their dreams come true. Join them on their musical journey to the Emerald City during this fun, all-ages event.

Each member of the Bliss family has privately invited guests for the weekend, unbeknownst to anyone else. As the guests arrive, it becomes clear that it is not they who will be the problem, but the family themselves. A shrewd, farcical look at a dysfunctional family oblivious to their ill-mannered behavior.

Thru Jun 9| Varies | Buell Theatre
Wicked, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin — smart, fiery, misunderstood and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.” From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, Wicked — the untold true story of the Witches of Oz—transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story that USA Today cheers is “a complete triumph. An original musical that will make you laugh, cry and think.”

Thru Jun 23 | Varies | Miners Alley Playhouse
Miners Alley Playhouse has commissioned award-winning playwright Josh Hartwell to write the compelling, untold, and true story of Mae Brussell, considered to be America’s first mainstream conspiracy theorist during the 1960's and 1970's. The one-time Queen of Conspiracy attracted an audience of thousands. Her radio shows analyzed public government records to link the JFK and RFK assassinations with the Watergate scandal. Loyal fans and celebrities looking to make sense of an increasingly complex, crazy world were hungry for Brussell's version of the truth. With humor and wit, Josh Hartwell's new drama, set in present-day Denver, imagines the family who inherits Brussell's legacy. The play also explores what a conspiracy is, and the difference between today's conspiracy theories and those of the past.

It's a raucous celebration of being able to recognize the shame in all of us. Because if we're all idiots, none of us are.

In 1948, four young men created a sound that forever changed the way vocal jazz harmony was heard and performed. Known as The Four Freshmen, the group started with two brothers, Don and Ross Barbour, their cousin Bob Flanigan, and friend Hal Kratzsch. With a soaring, true tenor in Bob Flanigan, the group created a sound that has endured for over 6 decades. Hal Kratzsch sang the bass part and played trumpet. He sang the bass part with a big sound, laying the foundation for the Barbour brothers to add their beautiful inner part stylings. Ross sang the 3rd part and played drums. Don sang the 2nd part and played guitar. Thus, the original Four Freshmen was born and began touring, playing bowling alleys and small clubs across the country.

How to Communicate with Tact and Professionalism Training Seminar
Look around you. The true leaders in your organization are the people with the best communication skills.
Coincidence? Hardly. Experts now agree that the movers and shakers who climb the corporate ladder fastest are the ones who can relate easily with everyone…present their ideas with conviction (and charisma)…and emerge from almost every personal interaction on a high note.
Anyone who really wants to succeed can acquire these communication skills …
Upbringing, education, and talent aside, all good leaders share the same quality: superior communication skills. Either through observation, trial and error, or schooling from mentors, they've mastered the art of "connecting" with people in ways that almost always yield positive results…
  • They realize that diplomacy works far better than brute force.
  • They know how to help people "get it" the first time.
  • They can empathize, and they know how to get the support they need.
  • They don't waste time rehashing instructions or entering into arguments that go nowhere.
  • They listen first and act second — not the other way around.

A day that brings clarity to your payroll gray areas
Payroll processing sounds like a simple proposition. Employees work at a certain rate of pay. You take out taxes and give them the rest of what they've earned. Unfortunately, regulations regarding special benefits and other payments turn a simple task into a legal landmine. With this payroll management training, you'll gain strategies to handle payroll accurately, legally and with complete confidence.
What you don't know can hurt you. That's never more true than when dealing with payroll law. The first step to complying with regulations is understanding them. You'll begin your day with a crash course in payroll's legal basics. Find out what areas fall under state, federal and joint regulation and learn how to avoid the often staggering penalties and fines of non-compliance.
