Michael welcomes Huthaifa Khan, Director, Solutions Architecture with Virtual Health. Huthaifa, a veteran health care professional, discusses the emergence and rapid adoption of the FHIR standard in healthcare data exchange, along with implementation stories, and its potential future in the industry. 

Michael discusses the Sequoia Project's Payer to Payer FHIR API Implementation Workgroup with its co-chairs, Nancy Beavin from Medica, Bob Oakley from Evernorth and the Project Lead, David Pyke with Sequoia. 

Each year WEDI recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations through our annual awards program. WEDI Members have the ability to nominate for each award category.


Health IT Champion â€“ The Louis Sullivan Award Named in honor of the former HHS Secretary Louis Sullivan, MD who was instrumental in the creation of WEDI and initiating the healthcare industry’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare through the development of standards for administrative simplification. This award recognizes an individual who has distinguished themselves through their leadership, vision and achievements in advancing the efficiency of healthcare.


Leadership in Volunteerism â€“ The Andrew Melczer Award Named in honor of the late Andrew Melczer who committed his career to healthcare and devoted his life to helping, teaching, and sharing with others. This award recognizes an individual who has provided exemplary service by giving their time to WEDI and the health care IT industry on a national basis. Andrew Melczer exemplified these characteristics through his volunteerism with WEDI.


Distinguished Service â€“ The Steve Lazarus Award Named in honor of Steve Lazarus, PhD, who was a former WEDI Board Chair and exemplary volunteer. This award recognizes an individual who has provided significant leadership to the fulfillment of the mission, objectives, programs and overall volunteer activities of WEDI through participation in committees, workgroups, PAGs, Board of Directors, and events.


Innovation in Health IT Award â€“ Recognizes provider, health plan and vendor organizations that created and implemented an innovative solution that addressed an administrative data exchange challenge this past year.


Excellence in Service Award â€“ Recognizes members who have made a real difference within WEDI through their contributions this past year. This award distinguishes those who have gone above and beyond to support their workgroup, subworkgroup, committee or task group through their commitment, leadership, team play, and productivity.


When you submit your nominations, please make sure to include the person or organization’s name, contact information, and why you believe they deserve the award. Please submit your nominations by Friday, November 18th.
