The continuing resolution (CR) that is currently preventing a government shutdown is set to expire this Friday, November 17th. Still, none of the twelve regular appropriations bills needed to fund the government have resolved the House-Senate differences or received Presidential approval. Today, the House Committee on Rules will meet to consider H.R.__ - Further Continuing Appropriations and Other Extensions Act, 2024, which contains language reauthorizing the Special Diabetes Program for Indians until January 19, 2024. House Speaker Mike Johnson has indicated his support for a two-tiered continuing resolution that would fund certain agencies through January 19, 2024 and others through February 2, 2024. While Indian Health Service, has advance appropriations for most of its budget, a few select accounts are still operating on a continuation resolution. These programs would be funded until February 2, 2023 in the House’s plan. Meanwhile, the Senate favors a continuing resolution for all agencies through January 19, 2024. The exact path forward for providing Fiscal Year 2024 funding is not certain at this time. | |
