New in OSA and Study Skills Workshops

Guest Columnist: Katie McFaddin

Hello students!

Now that spring semester is underway, we here in the Office of Student Accessibility (OSA) wanted to share some updates with you. Our biggest news is that this term we rolled out a software system called Accommodate. It's brand new and we're excited about it. So far, students and faculty have told us that the system is very easy to navigate. Some Accommodate highlights for students:

  • Make appointments with OSA staff
  • Upload forms and documentation
  • View a dashboard with current accommodations
  • Update current accommodations
  • Make a semester request to communicate accommodations with your faculty

OSA has weekly drop in hours this semester on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00pm-3:00pm if you have a quick question or need help setting up Accommodate. Also, don't forget to check out our online study skills workshops, which are available for all CAS students. We hope you can stop by our office in Albany Hall soon - we keep the candy bowl in our lobby well-stocked!

Best,

Katie McFaddin

Associate Dean of Student Success

At our best, it’s what we do as Lewis & Clark’s faculty and students. Yet the daunting headwinds American higher education faces tempt liberal arts colleges to compromise their commitment to the liberal arts tradition. Many are chasing after faddish programming and preprofessional tracks doomed to transience by a world changing faster than we can keep up. This talk argues for the necessity of Lewis & Clark holding fiercely to a bold, courageous embodiment of its unique, hard-won and winning identity as a college of the liberal arts.

Join facilitator Nick Nash in a conversation that asks, How does the urban/rural divide affect the ways we relate to each other as Oregonians? What is the urban/rural divide, and how do we understand it? How does this divide affect our day-to-day lives and our experiences of being governed? This conversation is a chance to reflect on the beliefs we have about our urban or rural neighbors with a focus on discovering and abandoning misbeliefs, investigating and learning about the real differences between the urban and the rural, and trying to find things that we all share as Oregonians.
