The Scoop This Week

Clarifying the institutional Protest and Demonstration Policy

I understand that some of you are hurting because of world events. Protest is a form of social change and activism. Our campus encourages your student rights and responsibilities, constructive dialogue, and civic engagement.

The Office of the VP Student Life would like to clarify some information about the institution’s Protest and Demonstration PolicyA protest policy has long existed for the entire institution and was updated in August 2024.

Based on feedback from students and employees over the past year with requests for clarity and examples, which included the review and alignment with the Graduate and Law campuses, it was updated to be clearer, and to provide more examples of the types of activities that are permissible.

Every year, it is typical practice for administrative staff to review policies and update them as needed or to comply with state and federal guidance. And For CAS, there’s an annual notification to the student body about the Code of Student Conduct and any new or updated policies that is communicated each year via The BARK newsletter; please reference the Sept. 9 issue.

Please contact Evette Castillo Clark, Vice President of Student Life, if you have any questions or would like to meet: vpsl@lclark.edu
