The VPSL Column
Hello Students,

It was a very exciting and momentous Presidential Inauguration last Friday with a memorable and fun student party at Punchbowl Social on Saturday. I had a blast coming together as a community, and with delegates from near and far, to celebrate and honor Robin Holmes-Sullivan. In this time of rapid change, I am heartened to have Robin at the helm and look forward to collaborating with her on the many positive developments that are in store for Lewis & Clark.

You have already received a message from the Health Service, but I am pleased to re-announce that we’ll be holding additional on-campus flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics on November 4 and 8. Please sign up for a spot if you still need one or both vaccinations. This is a great opportunity to comply with the institution’s Student COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. Thank you for doing your part to continue keeping our campus community safe.

Don’t let the arrival of fall weather keep you from supporting our sports teams! There are home games for women’s and men’s soccer and for football this week, so put on your rain gear, grab a hot beverage, and go cheer for your classmates! This is also the opening week for the fall theatre main stage production of RENT, including an affinity showing on Sunday for students who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC. At that showing, students are invited to “participate in an occasion that is centered on shared personal experience, belonging in community, and celebration of diversity.” Tickets are available online for both general admission and the affinity showing.

And finally: Halloween is a week away. There will be tricks and treats galore on campus that day and prizes for the best costumes.  Have fun and be safe!

Best,

Evette Castillo Clark
Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students
Announcements
As a result of Google ending unlimited storage for educational institutions, Google storage quotas are being implemented on December 1, 2022 to keep the total usage under the institutional capacity of 100 TB. Due to our loss of unlimited storage, we must all curate our content, clarify group collaboration and archiving processes, while doing our best to avoid data loss. As staff and faculty, we must ensure that all institutional data must remain under institutional provided services.
  • Students will receive a 10GB storage quota.
  • Staff will receive a 25GB storage quota.
  • Faculty will receive a 75GB storage quota.
You may be able to benefit from temporary changes made to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. These changes, called the “Limited PSLF Waiver,” are helping borrowers across the nation more easily get their loans forgiven – but if you haven’t already applied for PSLF, you must submit a PSLF form and/or consolidate your non-Direct federal student loans by October 31, 2022 to get the benefit.

Based on Puccini’s beloved opera La Bohème, Rent follows the ups and downs of a year in the life of a group of impoverished, artistic friends living in Manhattan’s East Village. The group’s dreams, losses, and love stories weave through the musical’s narration to paint a stunningly raw and emotional portrait of the gritty bohemian world of New York City in the late 1980s, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

Tickets can also be purchased at our box office, Monday through Friday, 1:00-5:00pm, and one hour before performances beginning October 24th. Phone reservations for non-campus ticket purchasers only (503-768-7495).

Advance sign-ups are required for these clinics. If you would like to participate in the clinics, please sign up as soon as possible. Schedule your appointment here.

  • It is very important that you bring your PRINTED insurance information and consent form with you to the clinic.

  • If you desire vaccination, but the above criteria are barriers for you, please e-mail health@lclark.edu for guidance about other possible ways to receive the vaccines.

  • Updated COVID-19 boosters help restore protection that has decreased since previous vaccination, and provide broader protection against recent variants. The new bivalent COVID booster is safe and effective and can be given at the same time as the flu shot. It protects against the original strain and the Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5. You can get either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID vaccine two months after any initial vaccine series or two months after a previous booster. There is no cost for the COVID vaccine booster.
