The VPSL Column
Dear Students,

As we move past the first week of the semester, everyone in the Division of Student Life hopes you are off to a productive and engaging start.

In the spirit of transparency and learning, we are pleased to provide you with our first Semi-Annual Notification of the Student Code of Conduct and College Policies. The purpose of the Code of Conduct at Lewis & Clark College is to establish clear expectations for behavior that fosters academic and communal integrity. For your review:

  • You can find the Student Code of Conduct here
  • You can find the specific CAS College Policies here
  • You can find Institutional Policies that apply to all three Lewis & Clark College campuses here.

We hope that you will take the time to review all sections carefully and understand what is expected of you as a community member. To report concerns about policy violations, bias, Title IX, or student welfare within our community, please use this form

We want to also take the time to highlight a few policies and practices from the links above that we think are particularly pertinent at the beginning of this semester:
  1. Good Neighbor: Please be aware that the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct applies to any conduct by a student t, including activities in on- or off-campus housing that unreasonably disturb the peace and privacy of our neighbors. Doing so can fall under our policy around Disorderly Conduct. Please be mindful of our neighbors, and take care to respect their property.
  2. Smoking and Tobacco: The College’s Smoke and Tobacco Free Policies prohibits smoking, the use of tobacco products, and the use of inhalant delivery systems in any Lewis & Clark spaces, including on sidewalks, in parking lots, or in other outdoor areas managed by the institution.
  3. COVID-19: The institution’s temporary COVID-19 Mitigation Policy remains in effect. This policy, which is in line with the College’s Directives Policy, denotes that failure to comply with COVID-related health guidelines issued by the college is prohibited. This includes mandates to complete COVID-19 vaccination requirements.

As you review the code and policies, if you have feedback, questions, or concerns about the policies or you would like more information/training brought to your student organization or group, or to serve in an official Code of Conduct review, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities by emailing [email protected]. We welcome your feedback and an opportunity to discuss and grow our community expectations.

Sincerely,

Evette Castillo Clark, EdD
Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students

COVID-19 Updates
From January 14th to January 20th, we had a total of 6 reported COVID-19 cases in the Lewis & Clark community.
  • College of Arts and Sciences on-campus - 4
  • College of Arts and Sciences off-campus - 2
  • Law School - 0
  • Graduate School - 0
  • Visit the dashboard for more information on prior COVID-19 case counts reported in the L&C community.
As we continue to monitor COVID-19, guidance from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), CDC, and World Health Organization (WHO) informs us that a new Omicron subvariant XBB.1.5 will likely cause increased COVID cases in Oregon soon. Our best protection is to:
  • Stay up to date on COVID vaccines, including getting the latest bivalent booster
  • Consider masking up when in large groups or traveling
  • Isolate and test when symptomatic

Brought to you by the COVID Ops Team

Reusable Eco-Containers Available for Free!
This semester our partners at Bon Appetit will be starting a new initiative to supply reusable eco-containers that can be used at Fields Dining Hall.

Residents will be provided with their first container. Starting Monday, January 30th, residents can pick up a carabiner at the Campus Living office, or from 12-1 at the Campus Living info table in the 3rd-floor Templeton foyer. When you're ready to use a container, just swap out the carabiner at the Fields serving stations. Once you've used the container, either exchange it for a clean box, or trade it back in for another carabiner!

The first container/carabiner provided to you will be free, and recorded at the time of distribution. Replacement boxes/carabiners will cost $5 each.
