September 1 is Refugee Ministry Sunday! Pastor Peter will be preaching on "Then I Will Be with You." The morning's scripture lessons are from Jeremiah 7:5-7, Hebrews 13:1-3, and Matthew 25:35-40.
As we prepare for worship, take a moment to listen to Johnny Cash singing
He Turned the Water into Wine
at a live performance at San Quentin State Prison in 1969. At the beginning of the video, he briefly shares the story behind the song.
He Turned the Water into Wine
will be sung at the 8:45 service on Sunday.
He turned the water into wine, he turned the water into wine.
In the little Canaan town, the word went all around,
that he turned the water into wine.

Refugee Ministry Sunday Highlights
We are celebrating the Mangunas, a family of eight from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who have been in Olympia since January 2019. We are blessed to have the children share in song and dance during both services. Tresor Rubaduka, a Congolese refugee living in Federal Way, will also be sharing an original song,
Life Without Hope
, with us. In place of Light Lunch on Sunday, a Congolese meal, prepared by the Manguna family and the Refugee Ministries Team, will be served after the 11:15 service in the Great Hall. All are welcome!

Update from UMW After Hours
The UMW After Hours group is for women to come together for fellowship, service projects, and fun. They meet on the third Tuesday of most months from 6:00-7:30pm and on some Saturdays. Activities include helping the Food Bank by filling school backpacks, decorating wreaths and making cookies for the bazaar, making and selling valentines to support the Church World Service blanket project, helping with the rummage sale, plus more activities and social time. Upcoming activities include stuffing bags of food to go into backpacks for at-risk youth in Thurston County on September 10. And on September 17, they will be sharing and tasting InstaPot recipes. All women are welcome to join! Please contact Mary Mahaffy (
[email protected]
) for details, or if you would like to be added to the email list for meeting and other activity notices.
