Community Update and Letter of Apology from the DUUC Board of Trustees
|
We want to share an important update regarding DUUC's relationship with Community Minister Rev. Dr. Myriam Renaud. We also want to acknowledge that we should have communicated this decision to the congregation much sooner than we did.
|
At its April meeting, the Board of Trustees decided to end DUUC’s affiliation agreement with Rev. Myriam, which means she will no longer serve as our Community Minister. During our 9 years of working together, we enjoyed many meaningful points of connection, but more recently our paths have diverged, as DUUC’s deepens our emphasis on justice-seeking and Universalism. As a Community Minister is a bridge between the congregation’s work and the work of UUism in the wider community, this is an appropriate reason for a congregation and a Community Minister to part ways.

The Board should have shared this information with the congregation soon afterwards, but we did not. It was an unintentional lack of communication, but we recognize that it still may have caused confusion or concern. This was an oversight on the Board’s part, and we apologize for not communicating clearly and promptly with the congregation.
|
We thank Rev Myriam for her years of service to our community, and we wish her well in her future pursuits. In addition, we will focus on maintaining clear and timely communication with the congregation in the future.

Hello Women of DUUC

Did you know that DUUC has a separate email list for our Women’s Wisdom group which is only used for Women’s Wisdom notices? Like other groups in DUUC, we are able to communicate with those of you who have expressed interest in the activities of our group separately from the DUUC newsletters to ensure you don’t miss anything.

Our leadership team is currently updating the email list to ensure that our announcements are received by all the women who want them. Please email us to let us know your preference.

On Saturday, August 1st, 2026, thousands will gather in Chicago for The Fierce Urgency of Now: A National March into Marquette Park, a multi-faith, multicultural public witness commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Chicago Freedom Movement.
|
In 1966, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Chicago Freedom Movement marched into Marquette Park to confront entrenched segregation, redlining, and organized racial violence. Sixty years later, communities across the country face renewed attacks on voting rights and access to the ballot, expanding systems of criminalization and detention, and deepening economic inequality.
This national gathering connects the unfinished work of 1966 to the defining moral challenges of this moment. Together, faith leaders, civic leaders, organizers, artists, young people, and communities from across the country will march for free and fair elections, freedom for immigrant and marginalized communities, and a future rooted in dignity, justice, and shared humanity.
Led locally by IMAN in partnership with dozens of community-rooted organizations,and led nationally by Powered By Faith, this mobilization is a call to action grounded in moral clarity, cultural power, and collective resolve. UUANI is also a sponsor!

Why we are going:

Continuity: Sixty years later, the same questions of democracy, dignity, safety, housing, opportunity, and belonging remain urgent.
Moral clarity: This march is a public witness rooted in faith, conscience, and collective responsibility.
Shared struggle: Voting rights, immigrant freedom, freedom from criminalization, and economic justice are not separate struggles; they are connected fights for human dignity.
Mobilization: The march is not a one-day event. It is a movement-building moment designed to bring people, institutions, and communities into ongoing action.
