Topic: Is there a controversy and is it important? Do we know “who” authored the books of the New Testament Bible and “who” selected which texts were to be included in or specifically excluded from the New Testament and why?
The Christian Bible is widely accepted by the Christian Faith as accurate and authoritative but how many people know the sources and history of its content. Were the gospels actually written by the apostles, or are their authors unknown? And what about the other books of the New Testament? Scholars have long argued that some of them were not written by the authors whose names are attached to them, that, for example, some of the letters allegedly by Paul and Peter were not actually written by Paul and Peter. We will examine the available information on who actually wrote the books of the New Testament Bible and who selected which texts were included in or specifically excluded from the New Testament Bible.
This topic of discussion benefits from reading the foundational reading material (1 paper) that is provided upon request. The primary source material is the The Great Courses “The Greatest Controversies of Early Christian History” by Professor Bart D. Ehrman from the University of North Carolina and other Great Courses and religious historical sources. For further information please contact Bob Wunderlich at comparativereligion@dupageuuchurch.org.

Beyond Sunday Morning

Building Your Personal Theology
| What do you believe, and how have those beliefs changed over the course of your life? In this four-session workshop series, we’ll explore the experiences, values, questions, and sources of wisdom that have shaped our understanding of ourselves, the sacred, and the world around us.
| | | | | |
| | |
Through reflection, conversation, and writing, participants will examine both long-held beliefs and ideas that continue to evolve. The series will culminate with each participant creating a personal theology statement, or credo, expressing what they believe at this point in their life.
No particular theological perspective is expected or required. Come with your beliefs, your doubts, your questions, and your curiosity.

Chalice Circles
| We have several openings for some ongoing and new Chalice Circles for this year. If you would like to join a Chalice Circle click below to see available time slots and join. If you are already in a circle you do not need to rejoin.
| | | |
| | |
Why do Chalice Circles matter?"
Chalice Circles create space for deep listening, meaningful sharing, and spiritual growth. In small groups, we practice being fully present with one another—building trust, connection, and belonging. These circles remind us that our Unitarian Universalist faith is not only about what we believe, but how we live in relationship with others.
Chalice Circles are offered October through June. These are once per month discussion gatherings with a small group of no more than eight other participants. The discussion centers around our monthly Worship and programming themes. A very small amount of reading or listening preparation is expected.

Pathway to Renewal Congregational life has seasons. There are times of discovery and excitement, seasons when we feel deeply engaged and connected, and times when life draws our attention in other directions. Changes in our families, careers, health, interests, or stage of life, as well as changes within the congregation itself, can shape how we participate and where we find meaning. While these transitions are a natural part of congregational life, they can sometimes leave us feeling less connected to the community we once found so meaningful. Pathway to Renewal is an opportunity to pause and reflect on your journey at DUUC: What first brought you here? What has been meaningful along the way? How have your needs, interests, or circumstances changed? And what might help you feel more connected and engaged in this next season? This workshop is not a volunteer recruitment opportunity. While you may discover new ways you would like to contribute, the focus is on you, your experience, your sense of belonging, and the possibilities for renewed connection. Come as you are and take some time to consider what the next chapter of your DUUC journey might hold. Saturday, October 24th from 8:30-11:00 am. Register below. For more information contact Tina Lewis at tlewis@dupageuuchurch.org or 630-505-9418.

Table Talk Dinners Are Here! Sign Up Now! Exciting news! Registration is now open for our very first round of Table Talk Dinners! The idea is simple: build friendships, share stories, and deepen our sense of community, one table at a time. These small, casual gatherings bring together 5–9 members in someone’s home for good food, conversation, and the chance to get to know one another better. Whether you’re new to DUUC or have been here for years, single or part of a couple, everyone is welcome! Hosts provide the main course, and guests bring a side, dessert, or beverage to share. Our first round of hosts is in place, so spots are limited. If you don't get a chance to sign up this time, don't worry! We'll be offering many more dinners after the first of the year, including opportunities for new hosts. The Table Talk dinners are set for Sunday, October 25th & Sunday, November 1st.
