Hello Friends,
Last week was an exciting and productive week on Capitol Hill! We passed important legislation to strengthen border security, support our veterans, fund key federal priorities, and deliver results for the American people and Virginia’s Second Congressional District.
I also had the opportunity to celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday, recognize the service of our women veterans, highlight efforts to combat veteran homelessness, and congratulate Chesapeake native Dr. Andre Douglas on his selection to the Artemis III crew.
As always, it is the honor of a lifetime to serve as your Representative in Washington.
The House also voted on and passed multiple bills. You can read more about some of those below in my weekly floor recap.
| Now, onto my Weekly Debrief. | |
Securing Our Border
Securing our nation’s borders is one of the federal government’s most fundamental responsibilities—and it should never be a partisan issue. Unfortunately, after years of failed border policies and record levels of illegal border crossings, my colleagues across the aisle continue pushing efforts to defund ICE and CBP. That’s why I proudly voted for the Secure America Act, which provides our frontline border security personnel with the resources, technology, and support they need to carry out their mission and keep our communities safe. While the Left continues to play politics with border security, House Republicans and I delivered the largest investment in immigration enforcement in American history.

Honoring the Legacy of Women Veterans
Having served in the Navy, I witnessed firsthand the dedication, leadership, and professionalism that women bring to our Armed Forces every day. Last week I introduced a resolution to designate June 12th as Women Veterans Appreciation Day. Throughout my career as a Navy helicopter pilot, I had the privilege of serving alongside extraordinary women who answered the call to serve. They’ve made invaluable contributions to our Armed Forces and their service should never go unrecognized.

Last week I helped leave a small mark on the America 250 birthday cake…! I had the opportunity to mold aircraft carriers and F/A-18s and sign the ceremonial apron that will accompany the cake when it is presented at the Library of Congress on July 4th. I’m grateful to the America250 team for making historic celebration so special! 🇺🇸

Weekly Poll
Thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s poll. I asked whether you had a disaster preparedness plan for you and your family. 55% said YES, 40% said NO, and 5% were UNSURE.
As we enter the peak of hurricane season, I encourage every family to take steps now to prepare for potential emergencies. Having a plan in place, assembling emergency supplies, and staying informed can make all the difference when severe weather strikes. Preparedness helps protect not only your loved ones, but also our entire community.
Whether you already have a plan or are just getting started, now is the time to review your emergency contacts, evacuation routes, and disaster supply kits. I encourage you to visit the Virginia Department of Emergency Management's website for additional resources!
| And now, onto this week's poll question...! |
| Do you support creating a Congressional Task Force to combat waste, fraud, and abuse? | | | |
Medal of Honor Recipient of the Week
This week, I would like to honor Medal of Honor Recipient Private First Class Kenneth J. David of the United States Army (Medal of Honor action date: May 7, 1970).
Kenneth David was born on January 21, 1950, in Girard, Ohio. In 1969, he was drafted into the Army to serve in Vietnam. He received basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, then advanced training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, serving as a radio-telephone operator with Company D, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, near Fire Support Base Maureen.

On May 7, 1970, while serving as a radio-telephone operator with Company D, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, near Fire Support Base Maureen, Thua Thien Province, Republic of Vietnam, David’s unit came under intense attack from a large hostile force. The initial assault killed the platoon leader and caused numerous friendly casualties. Without hesitation, David passed his radio to his platoon sergeant and moved to the defensive perimeter, engaging the enemy with automatic weapons fire and helping repel repeated attempts to overrun the position. Recognizing the danger to wounded soldiers at the center of the perimeter, he moved outside the lines to draw enemy fire away from them, repeatedly exposing himself to protect his comrades. Despite being wounded by an exploding satchel charge and running low on ammunition, he continued fighting with grenades and refused evacuation. He also helped shield incoming medevac helicopters by drawing enemy fire away from the landing zone. After reinforcements arrived, David carried a wounded soldier to safety, then returned to provide covering fire until the enemy broke contact.
More than five decades after his actions during the war, Kenneth J. David was awarded the Medal of Honor at a White House ceremony on January 3, 2025. His wartime service had previously been recognized with the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart, and this additional honor further acknowledges his extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy.

Constituent Corner
I know how difficult it can be to navigate the federal government. My office assisted Craig from Virginia Beach in resolving an issue with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). After reaching out to my office, we were able to lend a helping hand through the casework inquiry process. Thanks for reaching out, Craig...!
