A Message from Head of School Mike Annis

Hiring the right people for the work we do at Heritage is always a faith-testing adventure. I typically know what roles I need to fill in the spring of the preceding year and begin an active pursuit. This year, my pursuit has not yet yielded the person I am confident is the right one for middle school Science and Literature. Of late, I have been asking God “why” as I look at the start of the school year rapidly approaching. That being said, I always like to have multiple plans in place to address needs knowing that my desired outcome may not be what materializes. I advance all of the plans simultaneously so that when the rubber meets the road, we can pull the trigger on the plan that fits the situation best. The time has come to pull the trigger. For the 2018-2019 school year, the full-time middle school role of Science and Literature will be split. I will teach the 3 middle school Science classes (part of my background before moving into administration) and Shari Montgomery will teach the middle school Literature classes. This summer, both of us have been working through the material to be taught and anticipate a good year working more closely with all of our middle school students and parents.

I ask that you continue to pray that God provides the right person to assume that full time role and for Shari and I – that God would fully equip us for the road ahead.
A Note from the Board of Directors

On May 8, 2018 an ICACSA meeting was held, part of which was a Heritage Board of Directors’ election of three new members. One of the newly elected members, Caleb Stamp, and his wife have since decided to homeschool. At the time of the election this was not a change that the Stamps anticipated; but due to unforeseen changes in other aspects of their life the decision was made for this fall. They feel that this is the path that God has directed them to and is a way for them to further disciple their son.
D ue to this decision, Caleb has chosen to step down from his role on the Heritage Board. The Board has accepted Caleb’s decision. The by-laws state that the board can operate with between 7 and 11 members. The current number of board members is seven, so the Board of Directors will proceed without electing a new member.
Lunch Servers Needed!

We are in need of at 5 least more lunch servers in order for us to serve hot lunch this year. The time commitment is about 1.5 hours from 11-12:30pm. Currently we have openings on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. If your schedule is such that you are not able to commit to the entire year, we have options! If you are only available for the fall months, the winter months, or the spring months, we can arrange a schedule accordingly. if we do not get enough lunch servers, we will not be able to serve lunch each day. This is a great opportunity to volunteer and get to know the students better! It's also a great way for a grandparent to volunteer so pass the opportunity along to your child's grandparents. Please call or email Brenda Wichhart in the office if you are willing to serve in this capacity. ([email protected])  or 626-4777.

Volunteer Screening Process

If you anticipate volunteering with direct supervision over students this year (driving for field trips, serving lunch, coaching, etc.), you will need to complete a Volunteer Application. This application needs to be done each school year so even if you filled one out last year, you will need to do it again this year before being able to volunteer . You can visit our website and click on the Volunteer Application icon under Parent Hub on the home page or click here  to access the application. You'll choose the volunteer option and then click on the form for the volunteer opportunity you would like to apply for. One item to note is that if you will be driving for a field trip, we need a copy of your drivers license as well as a copy of your declarations page showing your vehicle insurance limits (not just the insurance card). If you have questions, contact Lisa Turnbough at [email protected]
Update your child's immunization records this summer

Many of you may be scheduling health exams and athletic physicals over the summer. Please assist the office by requesting an updated record of immunization for your child at their next exam. This is especially important for students entering kindergarten and 7th grade when additional required immunizations are given. The Department of Public Health and Human Services requires the school to have an up-to-date record of immunization on file before our annual audit in the fall. Immunization records can be faxed to 319-626-4778.
