Veterans Day Celebration

Invite your friends and family to this very special annual community event held at Heritage. We are thankful for our veterans, and we look forward to honoring them. This year's guest speaker will be Karl "KJ" Johnson, Lt.Col., USMC (Ret.), Director of the C.S. Lewis Institute in Chicago. KJ retired after 20 years in the Marine Corps where he served as a helicopter pilot, weapons and tactics instructor, and operations officer. He’s a veteran of numerous deployments and served as the Air Mission Commander for former Presidents George H.W. Bush and William J. Clinton.

Spread the word to your friends and neighbors so that we can pack the gym once again to celebrate and honor the brave men and women that have served our country.

A Note from the 8th Grade Class

We are starting a Thanksgiving Food Drive, and we would love for you to participate! During the week of November 18 th , we will be collecting a different food item each day for the Coralville Food Pantry. We, the 8 th grade class, will come around to each classroom and pick up the items on the specific days. As we bring the items in, we want to take time to thank God for the blessings He has shared with us and ask for His blessings, provisions, and comfort to those who will receive the food. We hope that our food drive will help teach Heritage students a little bit of what it looks like to love God and to love our neighbors. If you would like to join our food drive, please bring the following items in.

Monday, November 18 – Stuffing
Tuesday, November 19 – Instant or Sweet Potatoes
Wednesday, November 20 – Veggie day
Thursday, November 21 – Fruit
Friday, November 22 – Peanut Butter

Thank you,
The 8 th Grade Class

Winter...

You may not want to think about it but we've already had a taste of winter so just a reminder of a few items as we anticipate the possibility of more snow and cold temperatures in the months ahead:

1.     A text message via Parent Alert will be sent out to inform of a school closure or delay.  If you provided your cell phone information to the school, you should receive these messages.
2.     When checking for closures/delays on local media, please look specifically for information on Heritage Christian School. While our decisions are often the same as Iowa City School District and Clear Creek Amana, they are not ALWAYS the same.
3.     Decisions to delay or cancel will be made no later than 6:30 AM. If it is determined that a late start is necessary, please continue to watch the news. If weather conditions do not improve, school will be cancelled by 8:30 AM.
4.     In the event of early dismissal due to weather or other emergency, parents will be notified through a text message via Parent Alert.
5.     Please make attendance decisions you are comfortable with. If you are concerned about traveling when driving conditions are poor or it is brutally cold, please make personal decisions accordingly.
6.     With a delayed start, please arrive between 9:45-9:55am. Classes will begin at 10:00am.
7.     When driving conditions are poor and school IS in session, we will not count students tardy allowing parents necessary travel time.
8.     Heritage Christian School does not close for cold temperatures.
9.     Please check KCRG, KGAN, KWWL, local radio AM 800 and the Heritage Christian School Facebook page for inclement weather information.
Read the full inclement weather procedures on the website  here .
