A Note from the 8th Grade Class

We are starting a Thanksgiving Food Drive, and we would love for you to participate! During the week of November 18 th , we will be collecting a different food item each day for the Coralville Food Pantry. We, the 8 th grade class, will come around to each classroom and pick up the items on the specific days. As we bring the items in, we want to take time to thank God for the blessings He has shared with us and ask for His blessings, provisions, and comfort to those who will receive the food. We hope that our food drive will help teach Heritage students a little bit of what it looks like to love God and to love our neighbors. If you would like to join our food drive, please bring the following items in.

Monday, November 18 – Stuffing
Tuesday, November 19 – Instant or Sweet Potatoes
Wednesday, November 20 – Veggie day
Thursday, November 21 – Fruit
Friday, November 22 – Peanut Butter

Thank you,
The 8 th Grade Class
Support a Teacher - Cover a Lunch Break!

The next two weeks are busy times for our teachers. With report cards going home next week and Parent Teacher Conferences the following week, we'd like to give our teachers a bonus lunch break to allow them a little extra time to prepare for report cards and conferences. We'd love for you to sign up for a time to cover an extended lunch time in the classroom for each of our elementary teachers. The time commitment is from 11:30am-1pm (the week of November 18th) and would include supervising lunch from 11:30-12pm, either a break to look over plans or supervising recess duty from 12-12:30pm, and then implementing whatever activity the teacher leaves for each class from 12:30-1pm. Please take special note of which day you are signing up for as different teachers are on different days. Click here to sign up!
Lend a Hand - Mailing Help Needed

Thursday morning, November 21st, we'll be stuffing envelopes and putting mailing labels on for our Annual Fund Mailing. This mailing goes out to over 600 households and we need your help! Stop by the teachers lounge at 8:20 Thursday morning and help as long as you can. The more volunteers we have, the quicker we finish!
All School Thanksgiving Lunch - Friday, November 22

Next Friday, November 22nd, will be our annual All School Thanksgiving Day Lunch. Again this year we'll have an opportunity for the entire school community to come together at the same time to give thanks through worship, eating, and fellowship. We look forward to spending time acknowledging together how God has blessed us as individuals, families, and a school.

Parents and grandparents, you are encouraged to arrive at school by 11:20am to join your child(ren) in the gymnasium for chapel, beginning at 11:30am. Following chapel, we will enjoy lunch "picnic-style" on the gym floor at 12:00pm. Recess will follow outside from 12:30-1:00pm. If you have any questions, contact Brenda Wichhart at  wichhartb@hcs-nl.com

If you did not order the boxed lunch, you are welcome to join us and bring your own lunch for yourself and your children. We'd love for all families to join us in giving THANKS!

Winter...

You may not want to think about it but we've already had a taste of winter so just a reminder of a few items as we anticipate the possibility of more snow and cold temperatures in the months ahead:

1.     A text message via Parent Alert will be sent out to inform of a school closure or delay.  If you provided your cell phone information to the school, you should receive these messages.
2.     When checking for closures/delays on local media, please look specifically for information on Heritage Christian School. While our decisions are often the same as Iowa City School District and Clear Creek Amana, they are not ALWAYS the same.
3.     Decisions to delay or cancel will be made no later than 6:30 AM. If it is determined that a late start is necessary, please continue to watch the news. If weather conditions do not improve, school will be cancelled by 8:30 AM.
4.     In the event of early dismissal due to weather or other emergency, parents will be notified through a text message via Parent Alert.
5.     Please make attendance decisions you are comfortable with. If you are concerned about traveling when driving conditions are poor or it is brutally cold, please make personal decisions accordingly.
6.     With a delayed start, please arrive between 9:30-9:40am. Classes will begin at 9:45am .
7.     When driving conditions are poor and school IS in session, we will not count students tardy allowing parents necessary travel time.
8.     Heritage Christian School does not close for cold temperatures.
9.     Please check KCRG, KGAN, KWWL, local radio AM 800 and the Heritage Christian School Facebook page for inclement weather information.
Read the full inclement weather procedures on the website  here .
