Heritage Back to School Night FAQs

Next Wednesday is the big night! Before the event, we want to answer a few more questions that we've heard being asked.

6:00-6:30pm - Orientation for Prek Parents

6:30-7pm - Open House for all grades

7-7:15pm - Alli Olsen Memorial Dedication

7:15-8:00pm - Ice Cream from Dane's Dairy on the lawn (or the gym if it's raining)

What exactly is Back to School Night?

It's an opportunity for parents and students to visit classrooms and teachers. It's also an opportunity for the school community to reconnect after the summer vacation. There will not be any formal presentations in the gym. Simply come and check out your child's classroom and enjoy some fellowship and Dane's Dairy soft serve ice cream (hopefully out on the lawn if the weather is nice).

Can we bring classroom supplies during the Open House portion of the evening?

Of course! You are welcome to bring classroom supplies and drop them off with your children's teachers.

Will there be anyone present to receive completed school forms, payment of fees, etc.?

Absolutely! During the Open House, Sarah and Brenda will be in the office to assist parents who need to finalize paperwork or payments before the start of the school year.

Do I need to bring anything?

Any final forms completed for the school office and your school supplies if you wish. If your child needs any medications kept in the school office, this is also a good time to bring those and fill out the forms to go with.

Alli Olsen Memorial Dedication

Who: The Heritage Christian School Community

When: Wednesday, Aug 21, 7:00pm Following Back to School Open House and before the Ice Cream Social

Where: Everyone can move from the classrooms to the Pergola Memorial on the playground and assemble around the outside of the pergola.

When: Sunday, August 18 from 6:30-8pm

Where: Elks Lodge, 637 Foster Road in Iowa City

Bring: One item for the Elks Back to School donation drive

First Day of School

The first Day of School is Friday, August 23 - School starts at 8:15am and ends at 3:15pm for K-8. PreK hours are 8:15am-1:30pm. Doors open at 8am each morning for drop-off. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Heritage Back to School Coffee - Fri, Aug 23

Join us in the gym after dropping off the students on the first day for a time of socializing and meeting/reconnecting after the summer break!

Book Fair!

We are excited to host a book fair with PaperPie Learning (formerly Usborne Books & More)! They offer high quality books that help make learning fun for kids. There are board books, sound books, activity books, chapter books, graphic stories, non-fiction, homework helpers and SmartLab Toys.

Books will be on display in the main lobby Aug 27th-30th. Chrissy Middle will be available for questions before/after school and at the Parent Orientation Nights.

Fill out an order from and books will be delivered to the school around Sept 24^th.

Updated Forms for Returning Families - Action Required!

If you are a returning family this year, you should have received an email from Sarah Franje regarding forms that need updated each year. Please make sure you log on to your FACTS Family Portal (www.factsmgt.com) to verify the information and complete the Field Trip and Medical Release Form for 2023-24 along with the Acceptable Internet Use Form. Refer to the email for detailed instructions. Any questions can be directed to Sarah in the office at schallauk@hcs-nl.com or 319-626-4777.
