Dad's Saturday Morning Prayer - TOMORROW!

Dear Heritage Dads,

1 Timothy 2:8 says, “I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.”

Clearly God wants everyone – male and female – to pray, but there is a special responsibility placed on men, especially those of us who are husbands and fathers. The word for ‘men’ that Paul uses here does not mean ‘mankind’ in general but ‘males’; particularly those who are mature and have the responsibility of leading a family. Those of us who follow Christ and are blessed to be husbands and fathers bear the responsibility for our families before God. This responsibility extends to our roles as parents in our provision for our children’s spiritual and academic growth as well (Deut. 11:18-19 and Prov. 22:6).

I want to invite you to join me Saturday, October 5 from 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM to exercise our responsibilities as dads to pray. We’ll spend a small part of our morning to pray for our sons and daughters, the students at Heritage, our teachers, and the school in general (don’t worry, I’ve already checked for you, the Hawkeyes are away at Michigan that weekend).

In our fast moving world, prayer is easily squeezed to the margins of our lives. I’m hopeful we can set aside some time where we as men can come together and put prayer for God’s school at the center of our attention. I hope you’ll consider joining with other dads at Heritage as we pray for our students, teachers, and school. No RSVP necessary just show up at 7:30. We’ll pray for individual classrooms and teachers, our programs, and for new students and families to see Heritage as an education destination in the North Liberty area. I hope to see you on October 5.

Recent Apparel Order Update

If you placed an order for Heritage apparel, those items should be in this coming week. Rage Grafix informed us a few of the items were back ordered but we'll keep you posted if that affects your order.
Weekly Prayer Group

If you are interested in joining a parent prayer group that meets once a week at 2:45pm in the school kitchen to pray for various needs of the school body, please contact Denise Liu at denisemliu@msn.com. The day of the week that they meet varies but she can add you to the email distribution list and you can join when you are able.
Before and After School Supervisors Needed

Help spread the word among your friends, in the neighborhood, at your churches, and at work. If you know someone who loves working with kids and is looking for a part time job, send them our way. We're looking for additional Before and After School Supervisors from 7-8am and/or 3:30 to 5:30pm each school day. This is a great opportunity for a college student to pick up some part time work (hourly rate is $12.00). Feel free to print out this flyer to share or post. If you or someone you know is interested, contact Lisa Turnbough ( turnboughl@hcs-nl.com).
Sports Update

Volleyball Recap:
This past Tuesday, the Eagles played Trinity Lutheran in Cedar Rapids. In the 5 th /6 th game, the girls came out with some strong consistent serving. The girls hustled after the ball, working together to defeat Trinity in all three sets 25-12, 25-14, 15-13. The 7 th /8 th grade team faced tough serving and tall girls in the front row from the opposing team. They worked hard to dig up the ball, but couldn’t quite get control, falling 25-14, 25-12, and 16-14.

On Thursday, the Eagles played Central Lutheran. The focus for both teams was working together as one team. In the 5 th /6 th game, the girls came out strong, with consistent serving to win 25-15. The second set they lost 21-25. In the final, deciding set, the girls came through with some clutch serving to win 15-8. The 7 th /8 th grade team once again faced some tough serving. The girls showed tremendous growth in their teamwork and set the ball up many times for a hit. Despite some close games, they were not able to pull out the win, falling to Central Lutheran 11-25, 24-26, and 15-13.

Soccer Recap:
The rain and wet fields kept our soccer team from playing this week. Stay tuned as we hope to get the final game of the season in next week!
