Lendle Weekly Newsletter Spotlight:

by Carol Shenold

Surviving the disaster is only the beginning ...

Tali Cates was starting life over. Not that she had much choice. Her husband, disturbed by her admission of possessing a special gift of being able to see the dead, dropped her and their two children by the side of the road. Now she was back in her home town, living with her mother, starting a new business, wanting nothing more than a fresh start.

But murder gets in the way of her fresh start, making it more of a challenge then anyone deserves. Everywhere she turns, she's making more enemies then friends and the trail of murder keeps following her. Until she learns to embrace her gifts and use them to find the killer, life in Love, Texas will continue to be Privy to Murder

"Privy to a Murder is a fun and quirky murder mystery. It seems to have a little bit of everything, murder, love, mystery, and a haunting." - Coffee Time Review

"...a wonderful start to a great new mystery series combining a little bit of humor, small town charm, realistic characters and a solid plot that will keep you guessing." - Courtesy of CK2s KWIPS and Kritiques

Farewell to Pay to Lend

With mixed feelings, today we mark the end of the Lendle Pay to Lend experiment. This morning, we sent the last Amazon gift cards to Lendlers who met the $10 threshold during the first half of January 2013.

Launched in May 2011, Pay to Lend was an ambitious and novel idea. Lendle's founders intended that rewarding lenders not just with credits for borrows, but with gift cards they could use to buy new books, would spur lending and serve as an investment in the Lendle ecosystem and the book world at large. The unknown at the time was this: in the context of our free book lending platform, would revenue from Lendle's voluntary Patron program cover the expense of Pay to Lend? Lendle's founders acknowledged this at the time, stating, "This is a conditional offering based on projections of the success of our Patron program. If at some point in the future we're not bringing in enough Patrons to adequately cover our costs, we'll have to re-evaluate the program."

As it turned out, the Pay to Lend program could not be fully funded through Patron dues. Amazon gift card purchases became our highest expense each month, draining revenue that we felt could be better used to beef up our servers and improve website performance for site users. And so we have made the difficult decision to end the Pay to Lend program, freeing Lendle up to continue to invest the resources that will ensure that it is the easiest, fastest, fairest, and best way to lend and borrow Kindle™ books.

Baby name trends for 2013: Get ready for Kindle: It is likely one of the most important decisions a parent will make: What to name their child. And if they go with baby name trends for 2013, prepare for a host of unique names, common names spelled unusually, or names inspired by technology. Kindle, anyone? [Toronto Star]

Amazon Should Definitely Expand AutoRip to Books: Amazon made news [January 10] by announcing a service called "AutoRip," a tool that allows anyone who has ever purchased an album through the site to download a free digital copy. The announcement has been met with optimism among those who see the potential for a return to album-based sales rather than track-based sales, as well as those who believe Amazon's sales may improve because customers will see every music purchase as a 2-for-1 deal. Over the past few years, the rise of e-readers and tablets has made the e-book industry a booming one, and it would make sense for Amazon to do something similar with books. [Minyanville.com]

Nintendo's Wii gets Amazon Instant Video: Those consumers who don't want to upgrade from the Nintendo Wii to Wii U just yet but still want to get video streaming for their console are in luck. Amazon announced today that its Instant Video service is now available on the Wii. [CNET]

This Week's Featured Thriller:

Jaden Baker is unique, talented, special. And for a while there, things were looking up. Adopted by an upper-middle class couple of suburbia, Jaden believed he'd finally gotten that second chance everyone raves about. It came with potato salad.

But something happened. Something always happens. The life he'd been living took a dark twist, taking him on a journey that exposed him to evil, and the power it wields. For those receiving it, patience is a deadly virtue.

This Week's Featured Romance:

The Kissing Coach by Mimi Strong

Feather Hilborn is a style and dating coach. Despite what you may have heard, she is not a "kissing coach." Devin Nelson is confident and suave, not the kind of guy you'd guess has never kissed a girl. He's cute, too, which is making it even more difficult for Feather to resist trying to kiss him. Her first attempt sends him running. The second attempt doesn't go much better. But you know what they say ... third time's the charm. The only problem is, once Devin "graduates," some other girl will be benefiting from his new-found kissing skills.

This Week's Speculative Fiction:

Project Nemesis by Jeremy Robinson

Jon Hudson, lead investigator for the Department of Homeland Security's paranormal threats division, thinks his job is a joke. But when yet another Sasquatch sighting leads to a research facility disguised as an abandoned Nike missile site in the back woods of Maine, Hudson's job becomes deadly serious...

"Thriller fans and apocalyptic fiction aficionados alike will find this audaciously plotted novel enormously satisfying."
