Explore the world with our First U children
In this uncertain world being able to offer certainty to the youngest among our congregation matters. Children thrive on consistency and routine. Right now, that is hard to find in our neighborhoods and in schools. Let us make sure it can happen at church! This is a low-time, high-impact way to be of service.
Our Kindergarten through 5th grade religious education classes need 13 more adult volunteers in order to continue running from now through May 3rd. Will you help us create a magical space for our children to learn, grow, evolve, and then to teach us what we did not know that we needed to know?
Here are the specifics:
At the 9:00 am service we need:
Three (3) volunteers for Kindergarten-1st grade
Three (3) volunteers for 2nd-3rd grades
Two (2) volunteers for 4th-5th grades
At the 11:00am service we need:
Two (2) volunteers for Nursery + Pre-K
One (1) volunteer for Kindergarten-2nd grades
Two (2) volunteers for 3rd-5th grades
A couple of substitutes for one or more grade levels would be greatly appreciated!
You do NOT need to be a great teacher in order to volunteer in the K-5th grade religious education classes. [...]

NEW: Building Hosts Team! | We are creating a team of Building Hosts, church members who can offer a welcoming presence and be a first point of contact to support group leaders and church staff should any urgent situations arise. | | | | Love Lives Beyond Binaries
Two worship services:
9 a.m. in person
11 a.m. in person and livestreaming
| | We continue our exploration of Love at the Margins with an experience of worship rooted in the Love that lives beyond binaries, gender binaries in particular. Hear from members of our community whose lives bust open the binaries so many have been taught to live inside and find the love that meets us there. This will be a celebration of what is possible no matter what power dictates as norms. | | Smudging Ceremony this Sunday: Join in a circle in the sanctuary of the church at 10:30 am. Much like the Bdote, or the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, we will meet between the two services of our church. We will practice a sacred ceremony between our 9 am and our 11 am services and smudge together as one sacred beloved community. Regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality, or any other identities, all are welcome to join in this sacred ceremony. | | |

This Sunday is a Common Ground Sunday. Grade-based Religious Education programs resume [date].
At both services, all children and youth in grades K-12 begin in worship and are dismissed as a group to the Cummins Room early in the service. Kids in PreK and younger can be dropped off in room 104 as early as 15 minutes before the start of each service. On Common Ground Sundays, all kids and youth can attend either service time, regardless of when they are registered or typically attend.
Common Ground Sundays take the place of typical Religious Education programming. In the Cummins Room, kids and youth will have time to worship, explore, create, and play centered around the UU symbol of the chalice. Learn more about Common Ground Sundays here.
You may pick up your child or youth from the Cummins Room at 10:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m., not before, even if worship has ended.
If you have not already, please register here for Religious Education and our additional Children, Youth, & Family Ministries for the 2025-2026 church year. All families, with babies through high schoolers, need to register each church year, regardless of previous registration.
| | You can watch past worship services and view other First U video content: | | If you are experiencing a crisis or transition, celebrating a joy or marking a sorrow, please let us know. Building Trust, Enhancing Belonging
Saturdays. Feb 28, Mar 7, Mar 14, 28, 10-11:30 a.m., at church, Room 207 | RSVP Here
Communities and Countries are held together by trusting relationships. But we often taken them for granted until we are betrayed. Why is trust so important to our lives? Trust in government, science, in relationships of all kinds? Trust is a psychological, practical, and moral concept that we run into every day. How can we strengthen our relationships and repair those that are 'broken'? Why does it feel so awful when others don't trust us? This program will be a discussion, informed by ideas we've listened to/read to nudge us to puzzle things out and consider different people's views together. Facilitated by Nancy Potter.

Unitarian Universalists from (we think) every state, and even around the world, have sent messsages of support, solidarity, and encouragement to First Universalist. You may have seen the sea of cards at the front of the sanctuary the last couple of weeks. The Virtual Arts Committee is working on creating a display to share with the congregation. Thanks to Bette DeMars for sending in the photos featured here to give you a sample of what has come in to First U. We are grateful.
