This will be a full baptismal service with a eucharist and a potluck reception immediately following in Parish and Johnstone Hall. Centering Prayer Retreat Day

9am – 3pm in the Friendship Center

The Sacramento Area Chapter of Contemplative Outreach invites you to a day of quiet and renewal. We will practice centering prayer and lectio divina. There will be some teaching, community sharing, visioning. Join with centering prayer practitioners from our geographical area and receive support and encouragement. Walk the outside labyrinth during lunch break. Brief instruction in the method of centering prayer will be offered.

Thank you for all your donations to the Starr King TK-8 Backpack Drive! There is still time to donate. On Sunday August 9th we will bless the backpacks and school supplies. We invite all teachers and students at all levels, to bring in their bags as well. What better way to start the school year!

We Can Make a Big Difference for Starr King TK-8

Our partner school, Starr King TK-8, greatly appreciates the assistance we have given their students over many years. Other items that are needed are large containers of hand sanitizer, large boxes of Kleenex, glue sticks, black thin dry erase markers and thick dry erase makers of all colors. If you prefer to make a cash donation, please make your check out to St. Michaels and indicate on the memo line for Starr King. We will then shop the sales for additional school supplies which they request.

Drop these items off at church on Sunday or in the church office during the week. Remember, a little done by a lot of us can make a huge difference to many young lives at Starr King TK-8. We will bless them on August 9th and drop them off on August 10th. Many thanks!

Volunteer at Starr King

Like all of our local public schools, Starr King must cut costs for this coming school year, resulting in many cuts to school aid positions next year. This will increase the need for volunteers at Starr King. This year St Michael’s will help coordinate and place volunteers from our church. They need help in all grades K-8 and are happy to train volunteers, you can set the time and frequency that work best for you, what grade you want to work with, and subjects you would most enjoy helping students master. I found working with the students very gratifying. Please contact Cindy Dewey or the church office if you have further questions.

CARING FOR ONE ANOTHER AND OUR COMMUNITY

For many years, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church has contributed to organizations in the greater Sacramento Community and beyond. Beginning in 2013 all our church fundraising proceeds have been donated to the non-profit community. 

You are invited to nominate a non-profit organization to receive a grant in 2026. This year grant amounts are expected to range from $50-$2000. Grant applications are available online and paper copies are also available on the Usher’s desk in the Narthex. All applications are due in office by October 16, 2026. In response to the various issues facing our country and community, the Mercy and Social Justice Committee has been seeking ways to become more involved and support actions of groups seeking justice, fairness, and compassion for the people involved. The Office of Government Relations (OGR) represents the policy priorities of The Episcopal Church to the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. and supports civic engagement throughout the Church. OGR aims to influence policy and legislation on critical issues, highlighting the voices and experiences of Episcopalians and Anglicans globally. All policy positions are based on General Convention and Executive Council resolutions.

The Rt. Rev. Jerry Lamb

September 4, 1940 - July 25, 2026

It is with sadness, but with the hope of the resurrection, that we share that The Rt. Rev. Jerry Alban Lamb, former bishop of the Diocese of Northern California, died Saturday evening at his residence in Southern California.

Bishop Lamb served the Diocese as bishop for fourteen years, from 1992 - 2006.

Services will be held at Trinity Cathedral in Sacramento, Thursday, August 27 at 2:00pm. A livestream of the entire funeral service will be offered so that those who wish may participate individually or in local church groups.

Choral Masterworks

Bernstein--Chichester Psalms    

In commemoration of Bernstein's birthday on August 25, here is one of his more famous choral pieces. Chichester Psalms is an extended choral composition in three movements by Leonard Bernstein for boy treble or countertenor, choir and orchestra. The text was arranged by the composer from the Book of Psalms in the original Hebrew. Part 1 uses Psalms 100 and 108, Part 2 uses 2 and 23, and Part 3 uses 131 and 133.

The work premiered at the Philharmonic Hall in New York City on 15 July 1965, conducted by the composer. That was followed by a performance at Chichester Cathedral as part of the Southern Cathedrals Festival, for which it was commissioned, on 31 July that year, conducted by John Birch.

Prayers for Pregnant Women & Their Babies

We have an ongoing relationship with the Episcopal Sisters at the Order of Julian of Norwich monastery who pray daily for pregnant women and their babies. If you have name(s) of loved one(s) who are expecting that you would like to have included in the sisters' prayers, please email Fr. Rod.

Giving Thanks with Flowers!

You can remember your loved ones and celebrate important moments in your life with the gift of flowers to the church.  If you would like to give in this way, please let the office know and what you would like to give thanks for in the bulletin. You can send a check (or drop it off) to the office or pay on-line.  

Mercy and Social Justice Committee

The Mercy and Social Justice Committee exists to provide St. Michael’s parishioners with opportunities to share God’s love and justice.  We accomplish this by offering parishioners several ways to participate in outreach to our most vulnerable and marginalized neighbors. The Committee: Meets 7 – 8pm on the following evenings May 4th, June 1st, August 3rd, September 8th, and

Name tags are available at Sunday morning check in's on the greeter cart. Please be sure to grab and wear your name tag before the service. If you are in need of a name tag please let the office know.
