Bulletins & Following Along on Sundays

As you may have noticed last week, we were short on bulletins due to some printer troubles we have been having. We are working to correct this but we may be low on bulletins again this Sunday. However, there are many ways to follow along with the service without a printed bulletin! If you are comfortable using an iPhone, Smart Phone, iPad or Tablet you can download or access the PDF version of the bulletin from the front page of the website and the Sunday morning e-blast or you can follow along in the Book of Common Prayer and The Hymnal 1982 found in the pew pockets. This could also be a great opportunity for us to take additional strides in going green with less printed versions of the bulletin! Thank you for your understanding. Please contact the office if you have any questions.

EYEGLASS COLLECTION FOR GHANA

Dorothy Eddings, along with Bishop Wright and 22 others from the Diocese of Atlanta are making a pilgrimage to Ghana. Because of the prevalence of Glaucoma, which often goes undetected, they are taking EYEGLASSES to Ghana.

Please go through your house and bring eyeglasses that you no longer use to church and place them in the drawer in the narthex. We need to ship them to Dorothy on April 14.

Gethsemane Watch

In your preparation for Easter, consider participating in the Gethsemane Watch. The watch represents the time Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane wanting the disciples to stay awake with him. It begins immediately following the Maundy Thursday Service and concludes at the start of the Good Friday 8:30am Stations of the Cross. The watch takes place in the Columbarium and it is a time of silence. Spiritual books and writings will be available. Please consider "sitting in the garden" to watch and pray with Jesus.

There are still plenty of spots available and more than one or two can sign up for any given time. It is preferable for there to be at least two people per slot in the wee hours of the night. Sign up on the board in the narthex on Sundays.

Upcoming Celebration of Life Services

We will be having a Celebration of life service for Peggy Henley on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 10am at the church with a light reception immediately following.

Choral Masterworks

by John Cozza, Music Director

Sicut cervus by Palestrina

This week's Choral Masterwork is the anthem the choir sang last Sunday. Sicut cervus is a motet for four voices by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. It sets the beginning of Psalm 42, Psalmus XLI in the Latin version of the Psalterium Romanum rather than the Vulgate Bible. The incipit is "Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes" (As the deer desires the fountains) followed by a second part (secunda pars) "Sitivit anima mea" (My soul thirsts). It has become one of Palestrina's most popular motets, regarded as a model of Renaissance polyphony, expressing spiritual yearning.

Rereading Lent:

New Reflections on a Storied Season

11:45am in Friendship Center (in-person only)

In this year's Lenten series, Rev. Andy and Marilyn McEntyre will be leading reflections on the purposes and themes of the season, the ways we can reclaim ancient words for our own historical moment, and the question of how to read--and reread-- biblical stories. We meet on the Sundays of Lent in the Friendship Center at 11:45am. Each week we'll focus on a theme (Listening on March 16, Solitude on March 23, Repentance on March 30 and Imagination on April 6), a few passages of scripture, and the ways those stories summon us now. We look forward to the conversation! Please contact Rev. Andy with questions.

Living Compass - Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit

Lent is a time for introspection and self-reflection, a time to reflect on what it means to live a Christian life in the midst of great change and uncertainty. As we cultivate the fruit of the Spirit over the next forty days, we have a powerful opportunity to make our faith the central compass that guides life, helping us receive and share God’s transformative love.

The Living Compass Lenten booklets are available, free of cost, at the church. We will not have a weekly group this season however there are multiple other ways you can engage with this material through Living Compass at https://www.livingcompass.org/lent
