Advent Classes

Living Compass Advent

The Living Compass theme for the Advent season is Practicing Wonder with All Your Heart, Soul, Strength and Mind.

“The key to the seeker’s quest is not in finding just the right piece of holy real estate on which to stand, but rather in so preparing his or her awareness that any space he or she occupies can become thin through faith.” Steven Charleston

The Living Compass Advent booklets are available at the church on Sundays, in the office and online at https://www.livingcompass.org/advent. A weekly discussion group facilitated by Lisa and Jim Sargent will be offered on Sunday evenings from 6:30-7:30 on Zoom. We will meet on December 3, 10 and 17. Please contact Lisa by e-mail at lisa@2sargents.com to sign up.

Upcoming Celebration of Life Services

The Celebration of Life service for Mary Groesbeck will be at St. Michael's on Sunday November 19th, 2023 at 2pm with a reception to follow in Johnstone Hall. The family would like to invite all to bring in full size toiletry items to be given to River City Food Bank in honor of Mary's life. Mary was instrumental in our Angel Bag success! River City can not purchase toiletry items and still many clients ask for them. What we collect will allow them to give to those who ask for these necessities. We will bring these items up during the service as an offering of ourselves and the toiletries in thanksgiving for Mary's life.

Please contact Marcie Larkey (916) 488-6960  if you would like to help by bringing cookies/dessert items for the reception. To read Mary's full obituary please click here. If you can not attend Mary's service it will be livestreamed on YouTube here.

Scriabin-Prelude in c# minor for Left Hand Alone, Op. 9/i

This fall I have been playing as Preludes various pieces by Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915), a classmate at the Moscow Conservatory and contemporary of Sergei Rachmaninov, and a virtuoso composer/pianist in his own right. When an injury to his right hand forced him to give that hand some rest, he composed several works for the left hand alone, including this haunting, Chopin-inspired Prelude.
