Dear friends,

I am writing you as the lay leaders who do so much to make worship a rich and Spirit-filled experience for all who call St. Michael's their spiritual home as well as those who sojourn with us more briefly. And of course many of you also contribute to the food and fellowship times that allow us to connect with one another on a creaturely level.

Everyone is well aware of how demanding Holy Week and Easter can be on all of us. There are multiple special services that place extra responsibilities on the shoulders of everyone who prepares and serves at the Altar as well as all those who provide music, fellowship, and other types of support. These past couple weeks went smoothly and beautifully, entirely thanks to your efforts. On behalf of the clergy and staff of St. Michael's, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks. Your dedication and ministry are what make this church a place of welcome and worship, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Andy

Bishop Megan Reflects on the Loss of the Pope

Well done, good and faithful servant. Pope Francis died early on Monday of this week, and I am saddened by his loss. He was a leader of many surprises and much faithfulness in his role as Pope. A humble man, he brought with him an expansive sense of welcome and the presence of God.

His heart remained fixed on the gospel and on those who were in the margins. He even reached out a hand of friendship to communities rarely included, such as our LGBTQ siblings, and was clear about our need to care for God's creation. I have included him in my Easter prayers of thanksgiving, and hope you will do the same.

St. Michael's Learn & Connect

Upcoming Easter Study - The Earth is the Lord's

Beginning this Sunday April 27th! We will explore green themes in Scripture and Tradition and meet Sundays April 27 - May 18 at 11:45am in the Friendship Center. In honor of Pope Francis' life and legacy, his teachings on care of creation will be the basis of some of our upcoming Sunday conversations on this topic during the Season of Easter. Contact Rev. Andy with questions.

In our efforts to explore ways of going green we will be printing fewer Sunday bulletins for the 10am services and ask that you consider following along with either the Book of Common Prayer and Hymnal 1982 or a downloaded PDF version of the bulletin on your iPhone, Smart Phone, iPad or Tablet as you are able. We will of course continue to have printed bulletins available for those who need them.

  • Led by Tyson and Dawn Wright

Coffee Hour Support

As you all know, Bob and Gail McMichael have been faithfully supporting our Coffee Hour every week for the last...forever. Every week they come by on Saturday to set up the coffee and tea so it is ready for the following morning as well as ensuring that we have some treats to enjoy with our coffee and tea by managing the sign up board. While they are not ready to give up this weekly ministry they would love to start training up some people who might be interested in taking this on when they are away for travel and are ready to reduce their involvement in this ministry. If you are interested in this ministry please contact Gail McMichael or the office.

May the 4th be with you....Coffee Hour

Sunday, May 4th we will be celebrating the Falcy family as they are preparing to welcome their newest addition of a baby boy in June. All are welcome to join during coffee hour in joyously celebrating our next office mascot. Gifts and cards are welcome but not expected. The family has recommended that clothing and diapers would be appreciated but not expected. Please come join us as we shower Michelle and her family with all our love. If you would like to help with set up or coffee hour please talk to Pastor Katie.

Piano Meditation

by John Cozza, Music Director

Prokofiev--3 Pieces from Visions Fugitives, Op. 22

In honor of the composer's birthday on April 23, this week's piano meditation is by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953), a contemporary of Rachmaninov but with quite a different compositional approach. Making his name as an enfant terrible with his motoric and percussive piano playing, he also could exhibit a tender, lyrical quality. The three pieces I've chosen this week illustrate that side, with a touch of Impressionism (courtesy of Debussy and Ravel) thrown in for good measure.
