St. Michael's annual meeting will be immediately following the 10am service with a lunch. During the meeting we will be voting for Vestry Members and Diocesan Delegates and taking a look at 2024 and look to the future.

2025 Vestry

Every year the Vestry elects new members for a three-year term. This three-year term is going to be especially important for the life of St. Michael’s. In 2025 the Vestry will be selecting a new Rector. In July 2025 the new Head Master of the St. Michaels School will start. There will be a new opportunity to deepen the relationship between the school and the church. The Green Team will have new proposals and plans for how St. Michaels can become carbon neutral by 2030. We will be intensifying our efforts provide community service, spiritual, and study opportunities for our members and inviting new people to participate. We are especially seeking someone to serve on the Building and Grounds Committee to assist with maintaining the facilities and participating in developing a school master plan. So if you feel called to serve on the St. Michael’s Vestry, please use the following link http://stmichaelscarmichael.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/vestry-nomination-form-2025fillable-1.pdf to fill out an application or contact the Church Office (916) 488-3550 for a hard copy.

St. Michael's Green Team

The Green Team Gives Thanks

This time of year can be fraught with many activities. We have projects, shopping for the upcoming holidays, preparing for changes in the weather, anxiety around election results, etc. Your Green Team suggests that we pause for a moment and give thanks for this wonderful planet that has sustained human life for thousands of years. We owe it to the planet to appreciate all of nature and the resources that sustain us. We also need to be thoughtful and thankful to work on how each of us can contribute to healing our earth. The Green Team is working to find ways to make St. Michael’s carbon neutral by 2030. Look for more information in the coming months.

Gifts from the Heart

Thank you so much for supporting the Gifts from the Heart program this year! Our 120 children and adults have all been selected by this generous community! These are the next steps:

  • Purchase the gifts for your selected person or people and check them off on the yellow card. Write in any additional gifts.
  • Wrap them nicely, place a gift tag with only the recipient's name on it on each gift.
  • Place all gifts for each individual in the large clear bag provided (except bicycles, we will provide a separate yellow tag for those).
  • Tape the yellow card onto the inside of the plastic bag so that it is easily visible
  • Please leave plastic bags open so the stockings can be easily added
  • Drop off your gifts on Saturday Dec. 7 from 2:00 - 5:00pm or Sunday Dec. 8 from 9:00 until 2:00

Thank you for being such a blessing!

This is a great way to center yourself and remember that during this time of the year when we can get lost in the hustle and bustle, God calls us to slow down, wait, and listen. Please contact Rev. Andy or Fr. Rod for more information.

St. Michael's Recommended Reading

St. Michael’s clergy also recommends Marilyn McEntyre’s latest book Midwinter Light: Meditations for the Long Season. In poems and life-affirming reflections on freedom, growth, quietude, and keenly felt hope, Midwinter Light guides us to seek and find what we need, right where we are—readings to return to again and again when we need to recenter.

Books can be ordered online or through Marilyn McEntyre for a 20% discount ($15). She should have books in hand by November 29.

Choral Masterworks

by John Cozza, Music Director

Bach--Cantata, BWV 140 "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" ("Awake, Calls to Us the Voice")

As our church year draws to a close with Christ the King Sunday this week, here is a cantata that Bach composed for the last Sunday of his Leipzig church year in 1731.

Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140, also known as Sleepers Awake, is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach, regarded as one of his most mature and popular sacred cantatas. He composed the chorale cantata in Leipzig for the 27th Sunday after Trinity and first performed it on 25 November 1731.
