Happy Labor Day! The office will be closed Monday September 1st in observance of Labor Day. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Farewell Rev. Andy Gathering

Thank you to all who came out to show their appreciation to Rev. Andy this past Sunday for all his work here over the past year. We had a wonderful turnout! Thank you also to all who helped put on this event. We wish Rev. Andy the best in this next chapter of his ministry!

Welcome Rev. Megan Anderson Gartin

Rev. Megan will begin Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and her first Sunday celebrating with us will be September 7, 2025

Another opportunity for St. Michael's to shine! The vestry will be hosting the coffee hour and is looking for our great cooks to provide special goodies. This is not a luncheon, just a special coffee hour. Think finger sandwiches, fruit, veggie tray, deviled eggs, cookies and other finger sweets, dips & spreads for crackers, etc. Please let Mary Ellen Ferguson know what you can provide before she calls you!

We look forward to her beginning this new journey with us. Her arrival invites us to embrace our past, celebrate our present and eagerly anticipate our future.

Vestry & Diocesan Delegate

Special Elections - Sunday, August 31st

As a result of some new vacancies, St. Michael's will be electing one individual as a member of the Vestry for a term ending in January 2028 and two individuals, one voting delegate and one alternate, to be a part of our delegation at the Convention of the Diocese of Northern California this coming November. The special election for these positions will occur this Sunday, August 31 immediately following the 10am service. Please mark your calendars for this important moment in the life of our church.

Vestry Nominee

Christina Manning

I have been a parishioner for many years and attending the 10 AM service. I am involved in many of our outreach ministries and feel that I can be of service to St. Michael's on the vestry. I served previously on the vestry at Trinity Episcopal Church in Escondido where I also served as Senior Warden in my time on vestry.

Diocesan Delegate Nominees

Chuck Schaller

I have been an active member for over 40 years. In my time at St. Michaels I have served on Vestry three times and been involved in many of our ministries including worship as a reader and EM, our youth ministries, outreach ministries as well as Centering Prayer, prison ministry and most recently serving as a co-chaplain for the rector search. This will be my first time serving as a delegate and I would like to apply my experiences of serving in our ministries and committees to help represent St. Michael’s in the larger church.

Sue Davis (Alternate)

I am a long time, active member of St. Michael’s serving in our outreach ministries and in regular Worship services. St. Michael’s is a community that has enriched my life for many years. I would like to give back by serving as a delegate to convention.

St. Michael's Reads the Gospels

Led by Dawn & Tyson Wright

Starting September 2 at 6:30pm on Zoom

Starting in September, come along as we read the gospels (and the Epistle of James) together. We want to spend time with our Friend Jesus, watching how he acts, listening to what he says, thinking about his teachings and what he shows and tells us about God and His Kingdom.

We've created a reading plan, which you can pick up from the ushers desk in the back of the sanctuary or in the office. This reading plan is designed to be done on your own, but it can also be fun to discuss what you are reading with a group. If that sounds interesting to you, you can join our gospel discussion group on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at our special Bible discussion Zoom meeting.

Thursday Open Bible Study Hybrid starts September 11. We meet at 10am on Thursdays in the Friendship Room and by Zoom. We read all 4 Scriptures that will be read on the following Sunday. This allows us to study the background of each Scripture and what it meant for the original hearers. We discover what it means to us. Discussion format is used where everyone can express their ideas. Ending time is 11:30am. Come join us. For more information, please email the office at st.michaels@stmichaelscarmichael.org.

Godly Play Returns Sunday, September 7th!

Godly Play will be starting up again on Sunday, September 7 during our 10am Services. Godly Play is a hands on approach to teaching Bible stories to children from ages 3 to the 5th grade. The class gathers in the Godly Play room. To check in please visit the table in the Parish Hall. As always children are also always welcome to attend church with their caregivers. This year we will be focusing on The Big Way of Love for kids that comes from the Episcopal Church. This approach focuses on TURN to Jesus, LEARN about him, PRAY to God, WORSHIP God, BLESS friends,

GO out in love, and REST in God’s grace so that they (and all of us) can focus ourselves in living life showing Gods love to all whom we encounter. Godly Play students are brought back into church during the communion prayer so that they may join in community for the Eucharist. If you have any questions please contact Pastor Katie.

Nursery is open every Sunday for children 0-4 years of age. Please see the Godly Play sign in table.

Choral Masterwork by John Cozza

Mass #3 in f minor by Anton Bruckner

As the composer's birthday falls on September 4, it seems fitting that this week's Choral Masterpiece is Bruckner's crowning choral achievement. The Mass No. 3 in F minorWAB 28, is a setting of the mass ordinary for vocal soloists, chorus and orchestra, and organ ad libitum, that Anton Bruckner composed in 1867–1868.

After the 1867 success of his Mass No. 1 in D minor, Bruckner was commissioned "to write a new Mass for the Burgkapelle". Bruckner wrote the first version between September 1867–1868 in Linz (just before his move to Vienna)
