Happy President's Day

The office will be closed on Monday February 17th in observance of President's Day. We hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend!

Transitions Update

The Vestry and Search Team met with Canon Julie after the February 9th 10am service. We learned more about the search process and likely time frame. We are hoping that our documents will be made available this week to possible applicants. The search will remain open for 45 days, which would put us at the end of March. Bishop Megan and Canon Julie will review the applicants to ensure that they are in good standing, and then forward their information to the Search Team. Because Easter is late this year (April 20) and it's a very busy time for clergy, we may have to wait until the end of April/early May to schedule zoom interviews. In the meantime, the Search Team is preparing lists of applicant questions that we will fine tune based on applications received.

Rereading Lent:

New Reflections on a Storied Season

Sundays, March 9th to April 6th

11:45am in Friendship Center (in-person only)

In this year's Lenten series, Rev. Andy and Marilyn McEntyre will be leading reflections on the purposes and themes of the season, the ways we can reclaim ancient words for our own historical moment, and the question of how to read--and reread-- biblical stories. We will meet on the Sundays of Lent starting on Sunday, March 9th in the Friendship Center at 11:45am. Each week we'll focus on a theme, a few passages of scripture, and the ways those stories summon us now. We look forward to the conversation! Please contact Rev. Andy with questions.

Living Compass - Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit

Lent is a time for introspection and self-reflection, a time to reflect on what it means to live a Christian life in the midst of great change and uncertainty. As we cultivate the fruit of the Spirit over the next forty days, we have a powerful opportunity to make our faith the central compass that guides life, helping us receive and share God’s transformative love.

The Living Compass Lenten booklets provide a rich opportunity for self reflection throughout Lent. They will be available, free of cost, at the church this Sunday.

We will not have a weekly group this season however there are multiple other ways you can engage with this material through Living Compass at https://www.livingcompass.org/lent

Choral Masterworks

by John Cozza, Music Director

Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjielo

The Offertory Anthem sang for Candlemas a few weeks ago, "The Ground" by Norwegian composer Ola Gjielo, is taken from his Sunrise Mass. Gjeilo was born on May 5, 1978, to Inge and Anne-May Gjeilo, and grew up in Skui, Norway. He began playing piano and composing when he was five years old and learned to read music when he was seven years old. Gjeilo studied classical composition with Wolfgang Plagge. In his undergraduate career, Gjeilo studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music (1999–2001), transferred to the Juilliard School (2001), and studied at the Royal College of Music, London (2002–2004) to receive a bachelor's degree in composition. He continued his education at Juilliard (2004–06) where he received his master's degree in 2006, also in composition. From 2009–10, Gjeilo was composer-in-residence for Phoenix Chorale.

He currently resides in Manhattan, working as a freelance composer.
