"This Is The Kingdom: A Little Yields A Lot "

Preacher: Pastor Ben Roberts
Worship Leader: Pastor Mark Stapleton
Old Testament Reading: Ezekiel 17:22-24
Second Reading: Romans 11:13-24
Holy Gospel: Matthew 13:31-35
It’s amazing how something so small and insignificant can become something so great and extravagant. A mustard seed is so small it can practically disappear when sown in the earth. But when it grows up, it towers over all the other plants in the garden. A tiny bit of yeast can literally “hide” in a huge batch of flour. But after a few hours, that little bit of yeast creates a huge lump of dough. As we continue our series “This Is The Kingdom”, Jesus applies this stunning truth to Himself and His ministry. Though His ministry may seem small and insignificant to so many people, past and present, it creates something beyond anything we can imagine: sinners become saints, unbelief becomes faith, death becomes eternal life. We may doubt the power of something so small, but in the end, we can trust that what the reign of Jesus does in our lives and the lives of others is “able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think…” (Ephesians 3:20, ESV)

CURRENT SERMON SERIES
This Is The Kingdom: God’s Ways Revealed in the Stories Jesus Tells

“And he told them many things in parables…” A “parable” is a story that Jesus tells to “make a comparison”, to show on the surface the deep riches of the reign of God. When Jesus tells stories, it is not just to make a point. It is to point to the hidden but altogether true reality that breaks forth in Him. These are some of the most beloved passages in the Bible, and for good reason: the reality they reveal impacts our daily lives as disciples of Jesus Christ. In this series, we will focus on these wonderful and challenging stories that Jesus tells, as we discover the “kingdom” of Jesus that is at work among us and through us.

  • 7/5: Matthew 13:31-35 (A Little Yields A Lot)
  • 7/12 Matthew 13:44-46 (The Hidden Treasure and the Pearl of Great Price)
  • 7/19: Matthew 13:47-52 (The Net of Many Fish)

E-SUNDAY SCHOOL AT ST. JOHN'S
How is the 4th of July special for Christians?
On the 4th of July we are celebrating our freedom.

As Christians, we celebrate the freedom to worship God, to meet freely with those who share our faith, to read the Bible, to pray, and to tell others about Jesus. As citizens of America, we have the freedom to talk about Jesus’ death and resurrection and the forgiveness of our sins! Let’s celebrate this wonderful freedom with joy and thanks to God!
Make your own Fireworks in a Glass!

The instructions for this special 4th of July Science Experiment are in our Sunday School materials.

Lesson materials will be emailed to all Sunday School and Wednesday Bible School families. If you do not receive your package, contact Dalyne Shinneman at dalyne.shinneman@gmail.com or call 630-772-1688.
