"This Is The Kingdom: Worth The Cost "

Preacher: Pastor Ben Roberts
Worship Leader: Pastor Mark Stapleton
Old Testament Reading: Deuteronomy 7:6-9
Second Reading: 1 Peter 1:13-21
Holy Gospel: Matthew 13:44-46
“What’s it worth to you?” Have you ever heard or spoken those words? They often involve something of value, so much so, that it will “cost you” to receive it. As we continue our series, “This Is The Kingdom”, Jesus tells two stories about how much something is worth. That something? YOU! You are worth so much to Him that He was willing to give up everything…including His own life…to have you back from sin, death and the devil. When you may think or feel that you’re not “worth it”, you need only look to Jesus, the cross and the empty tomb. In the kingdom of heaven, you are worth the cost!

CURRENT SERMON SERIES
This Is The Kingdom: God’s Ways Revealed in the Stories Jesus Tells

“And he told them many things in parables…” A “parable” is a story that Jesus tells to “make a comparison”, to show on the surface the deep riches of the reign of God. When Jesus tells stories, it is not just to make a point. It is to point to the hidden but altogether true reality that breaks forth in Him. These are some of the most beloved passages in the Bible, and for good reason: the reality they reveal impacts our daily lives as disciples of Jesus Christ. In this series, we will focus on these wonderful and challenging stories that Jesus tells, as we discover the “kingdom” of Jesus that is at work among us and through us.

  • 7/12 Matthew 13:44-46 (The Hidden Treasure and the Pearl of Great Price)
  • 7/19: Matthew 13:47-52 (The Net of Many Fish)

E-SUNDAY SCHOOL AT ST. JOHN'S
PETER AND JOHN IN PRISON!
The new Christians in Jerusalem were worried! Peter, their leader, and his partner John were in prison. Everyone was celebrating and praising God after Peter healed the lame man, and this made the Jewish leaders very angry and jealous. Peter was becoming famous as he preached to the crowds - this new Church was growing, and that was competition they didn't want. These angry leaders thought they could silence Jesus' disciples by putting them in prison.  See what happens to Peter and John in this week's Bible story!

Lesson materials will be emailed to all Sunday School and Wednesday Bible School families. If you do not receive your package, contact Dalyne Shinneman at dalyne.shinneman@gmail.com  or call 630-772-1688.
