"This Is The Kingdom: The Growing Seed "

Preacher: Pastor Mark Stapleton
Worship Leader: Pastor Ben Roberts

Old Testament Reading: Ecclesiastes 11:1-63
Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:1-9
Holy Gospel: Mark 4:21-29
Have you ever watched a time-lapse video of a seed sprouting? After being planted in the soil and receiving generous amounts of sunshine and water…it just happens! The seed starts to grow all by itself! Yet, we know, something causes it to grow. As we continue our series, “This Is The Kingdom”, we will be considering the story of the growing seed that Jesus tells. In this story, Jesus reveals the kingdom He has brought, the rule and reign over our lives. Once it is planted, we do nothing to cause it grow…God does all the work! Even if that growth is barely perceptible in our lives at times, we can trust in the full power of our Lord to bring the growth of the kingdom in us and others!

NEW SERMON SERIES
This Is The Kingdom: God’s Ways Revealed in the Stories Jesus Tells

“And he told them many things in parables…” A “parable” is a story that Jesus tells to “make a comparison”, to show on the surface the deep riches of the reign of God. When Jesus tells stories, it is not just to make a point. It is to point to the hidden but altogether true reality that breaks forth in Him. These are some of the most beloved passages in the Bible, and for good reason: the reality they reveal impacts our daily lives as disciples of Jesus Christ. In this series, we will focus on these wonderful and challenging stories that Jesus tells, as we discover the “kingdom” of Jesus that is at work among us and through us.

  • 6/21 (Father’s Day): Mark 4:21-29 (The Growing Seed)
  • 6/28: Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 (The Wheat and the Weeds)
  • 7/5: Matthew 13:31-35 (The Mustard Seed and the Yeast)
  • 7/12 Matthew 13:44-46 (The Hidden Treasure and the Pearl of Great Price)
  • 7/19: Matthew 13:47-52 (The Net of Many Fish)

We are excited about a couple of things right now! First of all, we are welcoming 8th graders to join us at our next meeting.  👍Secondly, we are going to have our next meeting in the St. John's Parking Lot!

❤️  Here is the information for your child : Join us on Saturday, June 20th from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. We ask that you bring a mask, a chair to sit in, a hat if it is sunny, and wear something with your favorite sports team .   We will be practicing social distancing by sitting six feet apart, have cleaning supplies, and hand sanitizer to keep everyone safe!

What will we be doing? Take time to get to know each other, spend time with God, play some games, and have a treat! If the weather is not good, we will look at Friday, June 19th or possibly move to a zoom meeting.

E-SUNDAY SCHOOL AT ST. JOHN'S
ABRAHAM TAKES A LONG TRIP!
Today we're celebrating Father's Day! Our story is about a famous father in the Bible named Abraham, and the amazing things that happened to him when he obeyed God and followed His plan. God wanted to bless Abraham and his family in a special way, but that blessing required Abraham to trust God. When God asked him a make a long journey to a new land, Abraham didn't know what to think. Would he have enough food for everyone? Would they find fresh water along the way? Would they be attacked by robbers? Would his animals be strong enough to survive a long journey? Would his family stay healthy? Would all of his workers agree to come with him without knowing where they were going? It would be so hard to leave a familiar place and travel to a far-away land, especially since only God knew the details of this trip. But Abraham obeyed God, traveling many miles to the place God had prepared for him, and when Abraham did what was pleasing to Him, God showered him with many blessings. Abraham’s faithfulness is a great example for us to follow. God has promised to be faithful to us when we are faithful to Him!

SPECIAL FATHER'S DAY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE A FATHER'S DAY CARD CRAFT AND a "BEST DAD" MEDAL FOR HIM TO WEAR.
Lesson materials will be emailed to all Sunday School and Wednesday Bible School families. If you do not receive your package, contact Dalyne Shinneman at  dalyne.shinneman@gmail.com  or call 630-772-1688.
