"The Gospel According To David: David Spares Saul's Life"

Worship Leader: Tom Wykert
Scripture Readers: Vicki Wykert and Rebecca Hemminger
Old Testament Reading: 1 Samuel 24:1-15
Second Reading: Romans 5:1-11
Holy Gospel: Matthew 5:38-48
It seems that nowadays everyone has an “enemy”: someone who is “against” you and seeks to harm you in some way. And though you may try to avoid this person, if the time comes, would you be willing to “let them have it”? David had his chance with Saul. Saul was completely at the mercy of David…yet, David merely cut the corner of Saul’s robe, when he could have cut off his life. As we continue our series “The Gospel According To David”, we look at how David spares the life of his “enemy”, Saul. He did this because David knew just how much mercy the Lord had been shown to himself. That’s why we look at how God spares His enemies, namely, sinners like you and me, by “cutting off” His own Son at the cross. Because of the lavish mercy the Lord shows on us, we can show mercy to those we consider “enemies” through the grace the Lord shows to everyone!

The Gospel According To David

King David is often portrayed as a spiritual giant, a great king and a caring shepherd. From writing beloved Psalms to conquering mighty enemies, David is often held up as a great example of faithful living. But when you look at the stories of David’s life, you see not an example of faithful living; you see a faithful God who gives David everything by His grace. In this 6 week series, “The Gospel According To David”, we will look at some of those stories and see that the Lord almighty was working in and through His sinful, chosen King, to make David an example of the glorious grace that He shows to all sinners. We will also see how the life of David ultimately points to God’s grace that He shows us in our true King, Jesus Christ, and His love, strength and power that He shows through His death and resurrection.
  • 8/8 & 9: David Spares Saul’s Life (1 Samuel 24:1-15)

  • 8/29 & 30: Nathan rebukes David (2 Samuel 12:1-13)
