Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost
Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 5:05 PM (The 505)
Sunday, October 18, 2020 at 9:00 AM (Traditional)

"The Face on the Coin"

Preacher: Associate Pastor Mark Stapleton
Old Testament: Genesis 1:26-31
Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
Holy Gospel: Matthew 22:15-22
As the Lord speaks to us in His Word, He calls the righteous to live by faith and always gives reason why His people can do so through His continual presence, power, and providence. The Readings today urge us, in various ways, to live by faith in our confession and conviction. In Isaiah, He with great conviction reminds through the prophet, “I am the Lord, and there is no other, besides Me there is no God.” In the Epistle, Paul assures the Thessalonians, “He has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction.” Finally, in today’s Gospel, Christ urges us to live by faith and as stewards of all He has provided, to “render . . . to God the things that are God’s.” Moved by His Spirit out of gratefulness for the salvation earned for us by Christ Jesus, we then give God our willing obedience, dedicated service, and the glory due His name as we in confession and conviction live by faith in and through Him.

"Thank You All!" from the Board of Stewardship. During these tough times, for those who have been financially able to donate money to St. John's normally spent on things like gas, dry cleaning, auto maintenance, car washes, haircuts and restaurants/entertainment...the church thanks you greatly! Your generosity is appreciated.

E-SUNDAY SCHOOL AT ST. JOHN'S
FROGS, FROGS, FROGS EVERYWHERE!
"Ribbit...Ribbit...Ribbit!" The ground was green with frogs! They were hopping around and making everyone miserable. Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, was furious as they hopped inside his palace, "ribbiting" all night long so no one could sleep. How could he get rid of them? Moses said that the frogs would disappear if he obeyed God's command. Our story tells us what happened to Pharaoh and the frogs, and how God kept His promise to Moses.

Lesson materials, including a family skit and some games, will be emailed to all Sunday School and Wednesday Bible School families. If you do not receive your package, contact Dalyne Shinneman at [email protected] or call 630-772-1688.
