March 23 Congregation Assembly will be used as School Information Meeting Only
To St. John’s Lutheran Church Members and School Families,
The St. John’s Coordinating Council met this week and determined the Special Congregation Assembly scheduled for Sunday, March 23, should be used as a School Information Meeting and Forum. The purpose of the meeting is to present background information and to discuss the recommendation by the Board of Education and Coordinating Council to close St. John’s Day School (PS-8th Grade) at the end of the school year in June 2025. Several alternative school structure scenarios were evaluated by the Board of Education and Church Leadership before making this recommendation.
It should be noted there is an ad hoc group of members offering an alternative plan that is contrary to the recommendations made by the Board of Education and the Coordinating Council. The ad hoc group’s alternative suggestion is to consider limited enrollment in preschool through first grade in 2025-2026 and school expansion beyond next year.
We apologize if this has caused confusion, but we feel it is important to provide background information to our congregation and school families and to give people an opportunity to ask questions about the challenges that led to the school closing recommendation.
The Information Meeting on March 23 will take place at 9:20am between worship services. This will be an information meeting only; congregation members will not be voting on March 23. Background information will be distributed electronically prior to the meeting.
Therefore, the voters meeting of the congregation members has been rescheduled for March 30 to take place at 9:20am between the worship services. It will be at this meeting that the congregation members will vote on this matter.
In His Service,
Martin Haugen Robert Roth
Congregation President Board of Education Chair
