We hold those affected by the storms and flash flooding in Texas, and their loved ones, in our prayers.
The Disaster Ministry Team at the United Church of Christ has been in contact with the Conference Disaster Response Coordinator and the Conference Minister for the South Central Conference, United Church of Christ to monitor the situation and determine how best to support communities as we learn more about the devastation.
You can help support the relief and long-term recovery of those affected by these severe storms, and other communities that have experienced similar events across the US here: https://ow.ly/eciJ50Wm0HR (select “Severe Storms” as the designation.) Or you can send a check to the Conference Office with the memo "Severe Storm Offering".

YOU Are Invited to Rise and Shine
(https://paceebene.org/rise-and-shine)
It’s time to escalate the transformative power of active nonviolence: resistance, care for one another, cooperation, solidarity, allyship, creativity. Now more than ever, we have to tap into our potential to resist together, to support each other, and to stand up for the beauty and belonging of us all.
The Peace with Justice Advocates
Ask YOU to Join us in making this commitment
to RISE to the challenges of our times and SHINE.
In this unprecedented moment:
I commit
to take concrete steps with others to defy fear, confront cruelty,
dissolve hate, and work for the well-being of all.
I commit
to connect, train, plan, and take action to resist the injustices we face
with courage, goodness, and the power of nonviolent struggle.
I commit
to learn from the examples of people around the world who ended dictatorships with powerful nonviolent movements.
It has been done before. It can be done again. Therefore:
I commit
to rise to the challenges of this time and
to shine with the power of love, truth, and solidarity.
Alarms are ringing. Time to rise . . . and shine!
These are unprecedented times. They require an unprecedented response. People are already taking nonviolent action in small and large, visible and subtle ways.
You can, too.

GOOD TROUBLE LIVES ON
July 17, 2025
Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.
From felony disenfranchisement to voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act, anti-democracy forces are working overtime to silence our voices. 60 years ago, President Johnson federalized the National Guard to protect peaceful civil rights marchers in Selma. Now, President Trump is calling the Guard to stop protestors from using their voice and to block progress on issues we care about.
We can’t wait. We need Good Trouble now!
On July 17th, the anniversary of Rep. John Lewis’ passing, we’re mobilizing across the country to demand that Congress protect our rights and ensure free and fair elections for all.
We’re sending a clear message:
In the United States, the power lies in the hands of the people. We demand an end to:
- The extreme crackdown on our civil rights by the Trump administration, from our right to vote to our right to protest and free speech.
- The attacks on black and brown Americans, immigrants, trans people, and other communities.
- The slashing of programs that working people rely on, including Medicaid, SNAP, and Social Security.
What can elected officials do right now? It’s time for Good Trouble, not just from us, but from every lawmaker who claims to care about our country. Congressman John Lewis warned us of this moment. He spent the final years of his life fighting to protect the right to vote. This is our moment to carry the torch, continue his legacy, and pass it forward to future generations.
This fight starts at the local level. Get to know how election administration works in your state. Build local connections, take local action, and find a democracy organization that matches your passion, whether that’s protecting voting rights, fighting disinformation, registering voters, or reforming our election systems.
On July 17th, join us for rallies, community events, press conferences, and candlelight vigils as we call on our leaders to defend the freedom to vote and protect American democracy. It’s time for Good Trouble Now, Congress.
Join us on July 17th. Together, we March in Peace and Act in Power.

Remember in your Prayers – Those for whom waters are rising
O Holy One, you walk through the all the deep waters of life, and we pray with all your people in Texas, in the wake of the flooding of the Guadalupe, holding in our hearts especially those who grieve, those who care for them and those rescued and dealing with trauma, and those who continue to respond to damage and loss.
We also pray for those we know who feel overwhelmed by waves of illness or deluge of debt, for those who are emotionally drowning or are washed away by experiences beyond their control. Help each of them to hear your "Peace, be still," and help all of us to find words and ways to share that Peace. amen.
Special thanks to the Reverend Maren Tirabassi for providing our prayers
