One of Our Seven Ministries

This week we feature the Ministry of Evangelism/Membership. While some of our seven ministries are just beginning their work, the Evangelism/Membership Team has been at work since early last fall.

The purpose of the ministry is threefold:
  • to invite people into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ at St. Christopher’s
  • to welcome guests as if they were Jesus himself walking through our doors
  • to connect people to each other and to the parish in ways that give meaning to their membership and help them discover and use the gifts God has given them for ministry
This is an exciting time in the life of our church! Despite being in transition, we have continued to have an influx of visitors and our membership has grown in the last year.

During the past six months the Evangelism/Membership Team has adopted the Invite Welcome Connect program of the Episcopal Church. We developed our welcoming processes which include having more greeters available and giving a welcome gift bag. We used Realm as a tool to follow-up.

In addition, we evaluated our strengths and weaknesses in the areas of Invite Welcome Connect and identified areas in which we wish to improve. Future plans, which will be implemented in the next few months, include:
  • Signage throughout the church
  • Providing opportunities to learn how to share our faith journeys in ways that build relationships
  • Conducting a newcomer orientation class, “St. Christopher’s 101”
  • Upgrading our physical space and creating a “Connection Center”
  • Sharing the Invite Welcome Connect Program with parishioners
How you can help: Be on the lookout for information from the EvangelismMembership Ministry to learn how the entire parish can be involved in helping St. Christopher’s Invite Welcome Connect visitors and new members! Learn more about this ministry at the link below.

The Evangelism/Membership Team includes Marty Torrance, Leader, and Father Larry Walters, Clergy Representative, Deb Callahan, Claire Zmak, Jacquie Winters, Peg Driehorst, Deb Vine, Teresa Walters, Lydia Keadle, Annie Weissert, Margaret Baranowski, Jennifer Lawson, and Fred Winters.

If you would like to take a more active role in this ministry and join this team, please contact Marty Torrance at
St. Christopher's Youth Pancake Breakfast

Team Mother Kathy narrowly beat Team Father Larry for bragging rights until next spring.
Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center – Spring Break Snack Packs
Now through March 17

You can help provide food assistance to 60 children involved in the “After School Program” at the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center (MRNC). The children will not have the school breakfast and lunch program available to them during spring break.

Please take one of the spring break bags from the Narthex. Fill it with food items that require little to no preparation time. A list of suggested non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items is in each bag. Bags of fresh apples, tangerines or clementines will be appreciated too. Please return filled bags to church by Sunday, March 17. On behalf of the children who will receive these snack bags, thank you for your loving and generous help.
United Thank Offering (UTO)

United Thank Offering blue boxes are available in the Narthex. UTO is a ministry of The Episcopal Church for the mission of the whole church. UTO distributes 100% of what is collected to support innovative missions and ministries throughout The Episcopal Church and Provinces of the Anglican Communion. Through this offering, we are invited to commit to a personal daily spiritual discipline of gratitude. Notice the good things that happen each day. Then give thanks for these blessings by adding coins to the UTO Blue Box during Lent.  Return your UTO boxes by April 28 and place them in the wooden cross in the Narthex. Our hope is to fill our wooden cross with blue boxes. Let’s show how truly grateful we are for everything we have.
Thank you for your generous support of the Backpack Ministry.
We have all of the food items needed to fill our April delivery!
