St. Christopher’s Natural Playground
Named and Dedicated

Many of us gathered on Earth Day, April 22, to dedicate and bless the Natural Playground that has been taking shape on the northeast corner of our campus since January 2017. The idea for the Playground came in the spring of 2015 after Warren Gartner taught “The Nature of God,” a class in our Adult Development curriculum. Participants in the class brainstormed about ways that our church could honor God in nature. The idea became a vision for Warren and over the course of three years he held meetings, wrote grants, and garnered interest with his passion for the project. He engaged our congregation in donating time, talent, and treasure to make the Playground a reality.

In recognition of Warren’s vision, friendship, leadership, commitment, love of nature and joyous teaching, the Vestry named the playground in Warren’s honor.

Please visit the Warren Gartner St. Christopher’s Natural Playground. You need not be a child to enjoy it! Today you can visit virtually through pictures taken during the dedication. You will find a link to the photo gallery at the end of The Weekly News.
Notes From the Search Committee

The Search Committee promised to provide insights from the Day of Discovery discussions. To refresh your memory, we asked you to recall a moment that was a high point when you felt our church was doing God’s work and fulfilling its mission. There were many “high points” and things we valued and celebrated about our church community. These included the worship space, our church buildings, and the associated successful capital campaigns. You told us that our sense of community was rooted in faith and camaraderie that fueled events such as the Strawberry Festival, Young At Heart Luncheons, and other social/fellowship opportunities. Outreach was a repeated theme that included appreciation for St. Christopher’s Crops, the Summer Lunch Program, filling and donating Holiday Tubs for the Mary Riggs Neighborhood Center, and many other service projects. Among the things we valued was the blessing of wonderful clergy that cared for and inspired our congregation.

The wonderful truth is that we are blessed by an abundance of these “high points” and things we value in our history. We will use these as we describe St. Christopher's and develop the profile in search of our future rector.

Please watch for future notes and updates from the Search Committee in The Weekly News. If you have questions, please direct them to our Search Committee Chair, Drew Bender:
St. Christopher's Annual Strawberry Fest
Volunteer Now for the Shift of Your Choice

The 13th Annual Strawberry Fest will be held on Saturday, June 9, from 12 Noon to 8:00 p.m. Our event will be held in the PNC Bank parking lot at the corner of Rangeline Road and Main Street. It will coincide with the Gallery Walk in the Carmel Arts and Design District.

You might be asking why we are promoting the Strawberry Festival now when it's more than a month away. We need to know by Memorial Day that we have sufficient volunteers in place to fill all our shifts. If you can staff a sign-up table, bake, serve ice cream, cut shortcakes, take tickets, or clean tables, please consider volunteering for a couple of hours to help make our annual community outreach event a success.

Sign up for a particular role and shift using the button below for Signup Genius or stop by the Strawberry Fest table this Sunday.
St. Christopher's Crops Garden Prep Day

With faith that spring will actually come to Central Indiana, St. Christopher’s Crops team has scheduled a garden prep day on Saturday, May 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. Can you help? The beds need to be cleaned out and prepared for planting. It will be a fun day for all with tasks for all ages. (A rain date has been set for Saturday, May 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon.)
Plan now to make a difference in June

The Summer Lunch Program will begin at St. Christopher's on Sunday, June 3. The day before ( on Saturday, June 2) you are invited to “Pack the Cruiser” at your local Kroger. “Pack the Cruiser” is a food drive sponsored by the Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank for the local summer lunch programs, including the one St. Christopher’s will be hosting.

In partnership with all the Hamilton County Kroger Stores and local law enforcement agencies, patrons of Kroger Stores will be asked to shop on June 2 for the local summer lunch programs from a specific list available at the stores. All of the items collected will go to the LOCAL summer lunch programs in an area served by the stores. In addition, all cash donations will be converted to Kroger Food Cards for the programs to use for the purchase of perishable items.

We're providing this information to you now, asking that you put a shopping trip to a Kroger Grocery Store on your calendar for June 2. We'll send a reminder a week or two before the first Saturday of June.
