Meet Our New Choir Director

Lori is thrilled to be stepping into her new role as Emmanuel's Choir Director.

While not always in front of a church choir, Lori's life (and career) has been spent making music.

She sang with the Praise Band at her MN church for 18 years. She is starting her 5th season with Key Chorale in Sarasota and also spent the last 2 years with the St Boniface Episcopal Choir on Siesta Key.

The previous decades were spent at her day job (as a buyer for a music store) and then acting as Musical Director for various Twin City theatre companies.

Lori invites everyone to the choir. If all you can think of are reasons why you can't...she'll come up with just as many arguments for why you can!

Associate Pastor Update

The Church Council has unanimously voted to present our Primary Candidate for Associate Pastor to the congregation. The next step will be working together with the candidate to finalize a proposed compensation package.

In the near future, you will receive a formal announcement of a special congregational meeting where we will vote on extending the call. In the meantime, we invite you to keep our candidate and their family in your prayers, along with our congregation, as together we seek the Spirit’s guidance for the ministry of Word and Sacrament at Emmanuel.

Take a Journey Through This Week in God's Word

This week, we’re excited to expand our Lectionary Preview videos into what we're calling This Week in God’s Word!

Previously, these short weekly reflections helped you preview the Sunday lectionary readings worship. Now, we’re taking it a step further.

Each video will guide you through the daily lectionary passages surrounding Sunday:

  • Thursday–Saturday: Prepare your heart for Sunday’s message.
  • Sunday: Encounter God's Word in worship.
  • Monday–Wednesday: Reflect on and live out that Word in your daily life.

Our hope is that this new format will help you read Scripture more regularly, see the connections between the daily readings and Sunday’s lessons, and deepen your understanding of God’s Word at work in your life.

Check out this week’s video - This Week in God’s Word: From Ritual to Restoration and join us on the journey through Scripture.

Pastor Livenson Update

Here is a letter received with an update on Pastor Livenson:

Dear Haiti Team and Global Mission Table,

I had a brief telephone conversation with Pastor Livenson yesterday. As I am sure you recall, he has had significant health challenges involving the appendix, gallbladder and liver. Several individuals donated to a fund created by Emmanuel Lutheran in Venice and over $5000 was raised to help cover his medical expenses. Pastor Livenson is deeply grateful for this support. He is back in Haiti to access these funds, and anticipates returning to the DR for tests and likely surgery to remove both the appendix and gallbladder. Meanwhile, he is grateful that there has been some improvement over the excruciating pain he experienced a few weeks ago.

Pastor Livenson also wanted me to know that there has been some forward motion on obtaining the church documentation that the Global Mission Table funded. He anticipates receiving the Quittis paperwork fairly soon; the Ministry of Religion Certificate is slower due to non-functioning government offices. Nevertheless, he expects that this document will follow in the coming weeks. Once he has these papers in hand, Pastor Livenson will reach out to Rev. Sonia Skupch of Lutheran World Federation.

I assured Pastor Livenson that we were staying apprised through Lynne Ross at Emmanuel (Thank you, Lynne!) and look forward to more encouraging news in the weeks ahead as he pursues treatment.

Thank you for your prayers,

Pastor Katie
