Festival of Pentecost

June 5 - 11

Dear Friends in Christ,

Grace and peace to you in the name of our risen and ascended Lord Jesus!

This Sunday, we celebrate the Festival of Pentecost—a day that changed everything for those early disciples and continues to change everything for us today. As we hear again the story from Acts 2, we find ourselves standing alongside the crowd that gathered in Jerusalem, bewildered and amazed at the rushing wind, the tongues of fire, and the disciples speaking in languages they did not know. Amid the awe and wonder, a question rose up from the crowd: “What does this mean?” (Acts 2:12).

For that first gathering, Pentecost meant the sudden, surprising, unmerited gift of God’s Spirit—a gift that empowered them to share God’s mighty deeds with the world. For us today, the question lingers: What does this mean for us?

Jesus answers this question in John’s gospel, promising the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will teach us, remind us of all that Jesus has said, and guide us into the truth (John 14:26). The Spirit is not just a distant gift from long ago; the Spirit is our companion here and now—our friend, comforter, truth-teller, and guide. Through the Spirit, God is still revealing who God is, and we are still learning who we are called to be as followers of Jesus.

The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans that all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God—heirs with Christ of all that God has promised (Romans 8:14-17). This identity is not something we earn but something given freely and graciously. It means that we, too, are invited to burst from the safe confines of our lives and share God’s wonders with the world.

In our baptism, the Holy Spirit rests on each of us—young and old alike—giving us both an old, old story to tell of Jesus and his love, and a new, new story of how God is birthing fresh hope, unexpected grace, and unmerited new life all around us, every single day. Pentecost means that God is at work—here, now, in this world—through the lives of everyday Christians like you and me.

So let’s open our hearts to the Spirit’s stirring in our midst. Let’s share the story of Jesus in word and deed. Let’s be a people of Pentecost, bringing comfort, hope, and truth to a world that hungers for new life.

Come, Holy Spirit, and set our hearts ablaze!

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Will

Festival of Pentecost

This Sunday, we celebrate the Festival of Pentecost—the day the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Church. In Acts 2, the Spirit comes with wind and flame, uniting people of every language. Romans 8 reminds us that we are children of God, led by the Spirit and drawn into the life of Christ. And in John 14, Jesus promises the Advocate—the Holy Spirit—who brings peace, teaches truth, and abides with us always. As Lutherans, we rejoice in the Spirit’s power to create faith, build community, and send us out in bold witness to the risen Christ.

IMPORTANT BONE-BUILDERS

I don’t need to tell you how important our bones are! Without them, we would be just a puddle of skin, muscle, and fat—for me, more like a pond than a puddle. So here is what you need to do:
