October 23 Testing Day Information

All families received an email Wednesday, September 17, with information regarding activities for all students (by class) for Thursday, October 23. The email is also posted in mySFHS within the Resource Board in the Newsroom Tile. A summary is below.


  • SENIORS do not attend school.
  • JUNIORS take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (in a digital format). There is no cost and all juniors are registered for the exam unless they opt out.  
  • SOPHOMORES take the PreACT. There are a limited number of spaces for sophomores to take the PSAT instead of the PreACT. If you would like to have your sophomore take the PSAT instead of the PreACT, email Bridget Buckley at bbuckley@sfhscollegeprep.org by October 1. 
  • FRESHMEN attend the Freshman Retreat. More information is communicated by Pastoral Ministry.

Financial Aid Information Night

7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, Kuhn Cultural Arts Center. Jeanette Maher of Marquette University will discuss the process of filing for college financial aid, including the FAFSA student aid application. By understanding the process now, it is much easier to plan for future expenses. This program is appropriate for parents of students of all age levels.

Service Opportunity - September 30

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are invited to participate in a service opportunity on Tuesday, September 30, during the school day. Students will depart from the school at 6:00 a.m. and return around 2:00 p.m.

  

Faculty from the Pastoral Ministry Department will take a group of students to Our Lady of the Angels in West Humboldt Park to help at their weekly food pantry. This is a meaningful way to serve the community and earn six Christian Service hours!

Mothers' Club 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off

6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, Kuhn Memorial Field Concessions area (before and during the home girls flag football game). 


The entire Spartan community is welcome to compete and participate: students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni! Bring your winning chili in a crockpot with a sign stating your chili's title, heat level, and any allergen/dietary information. Sour cream, oyster crackers, and shredded cheese are provided.


Drop off your chili between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m.; judging is 6:45-7:15 p.m. $1 per person for a tasting bowl. Prize and bragging rights for the best chili! Not a chili person? Bring an appetizer or a dessert!

Homecoming T-Shirt Deadline & Dress Down Days

Today is the last day to order Homecoming T-Shirts! Shirts are $12 and available in mySFHS within the Resource Board in the Homecoming Tile.


Homecoming week begins Monday, September 29, and ends with the dance Saturday, October 4. The weekly schedule and more information is in the Homecoming Tile.

School Celebrations

St. Francis High School is proud to announce three seniors earned the designation of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists this year: Ava B., Ian D., and Michael H.! Fewer than 1 percent of high school seniors in the nation are selected as semifinalists in this program each year. Semifinalists are academically talented high school seniors who have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million offered next spring.


We would also like to congratulate our seniors who are Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program: Margaret A., Carter C., Audrey G., and Bridget L.! This designation is for students who score in the top 2-5% on the PSAT/NMSQT. Congratulations, Spartans!

Clubs & Activities Calendar

Reminder: Executive Functioning Workshop

5:30-7:30 p.m. October 7, at SFHS. This hands-on workshop is open to students grades 6-12 and their parents. Cost is $65 per student/parent team. Sign up here!


Many students need help improving executive functioning skills like organization, time management, studying, and note-taking. This workshop will provide:an introduction to executive functioning skills; organization of online binders, OneNote folders, and school materials (students should bring their Surface Pro); Study and note-taking skills; Effective homework routines as a student-parent team; Tips and tricks for managing time effectively.

Reminder: Women's Empowerment Group

Women’s Empowerment Group aims to help girls make good life choices and increase their confidence in their talents and abilities. Topics include peer pressure, self-image, leadership skills, girls’ health issues, career choices, goal-setting, stress management, and more. The group also addresses the impact of media exposure on body image and healthy eating behaviors.

 

Weekly meetings begin on Tuesdays during alternating periods and continue for six weeks starting September 23. Open to all grades. The enrollment deadline is today, Friday, September 19. Space is limited and registration is required.

Ongoing Updates & Reminders

Picture Retake Day: Picture retakes for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors is during lunch periods/study hall (10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) Monday, October 6, in the Rosmonowski Room. 


Note from the Nurse: Parents must submit proof of the second meningococcal vaccine for senior students. Most receive this on or around their 16th birthday. Please upload this information to Magnus Health as soon as possible (in the Child Health Examination Immunization Form portion).


Class of 2026 Grandparents Day: 8:00-10:15 a.m. Friday, October 17. Grandparents of senior students are invited to campus for a special day with their grandchild. Please RSVP with the grandparent(s)' information. This is used to make name tags and mail a commemorative photo.


Boys & Girls Hockey: SFHS has two new partnerships to offer students the opportunity to hit the ice!
