From the Priest Associate of Faith Formation and Finance

Alleluia, Christ is Risen! The Lord is Risen Indeed, Alleluia!

As we continue to celebrate the joy of Easter and the power of the Resurrection, we write to thank you with full hearts for your generosity during the first quarter of this year. Your faithful giving not only sustains the ministry of St. John’s—it is bearing witness to the living Christ in our midst.

Just as the stone was rolled away from the tomb, your gifts are helping to roll away obstacles in our community: bringing hope to those who feel forgotten, food to those who are hungry, and welcome to all who enter our doors. "Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it" (1 Corinthians 12:27), and it is through your gifts that we are living out this sacred call. Whether you pledged, gave online, dropped off a check, or offered support in other ways, your generosity is a sign of life made new through Christ.

For your records and tax purposes, your total giving to St. John’s from January 1 through March 31, 2025, a document will be emailed or mailed to you this coming week. Your contributions are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and we are deeply grateful for your support. If you need to update your email or address with St. John's Cathedral, please contact Kyle Black in the church office via email or phone at 213-747-6285.

As we move forward in this our Centennial Year, we give thanks for you and your generosity. May the God who raised Jesus from the dead fill you with hope, joy, and the deep knowledge that you are making a difference.

With resurrection joy,

Mel Soriano

A Celebration of Resilience and Resistance

“This joint event will be an opportunity not only to share food and fellowship, but to remember the roots of resilience and resistance that have brought us this far on the journey — and to recommit to the challenges ahead as we move forward together. It will also be a chance for us to honor and give thanks for Bishop John's unwavering support for this prophetic work during his episcopate as we prepare for the election of our next bishop and a new chapter for the Diocese of Los Angeles,” event organizers wrote.

All invited to unveiling of Bishop Taylor's portrait, a gift of the Rusack family, 'In the Key of Heart' exhibit also planned

Friday, May 30

11.00 a.m.

As the Rt. Rev. John Harvey Taylor approaches the final year of his nine-year episcopate, devoted to the theme of “Feeding Hungry Hearts,” all are invited to St. Paul’s Commons on Friday, May 30 for the unveiling of his official portrait. It is a gift to the diocese of Geoff Rusack and Alison Wrigley Rusack. Geoff is the son of the fourth bishop, the late Rt. Rev. Robert C. Rusack.

The day will also feature the opening of a new St. Paul’s Commons exhibit, “In the Key of Heart.” Reservations for the 11 a.m. luncheon program may be placed here.

Painted by local artist Juan Bastos, Taylor’s portrait will be on view alongside works loaned for the new exhibit by Echo Park Ministry Collaborative partners at St. Paul’s Commons. These include the Immaculate Heart Community and Corita Art Center and Nefesh progressive Jewish Community, as well as by local Episcopalians, including artist-architect David Davis, parishioner of All Saints’, Beverly Hills.

Organizers also plan for the exhibit to include recognition of musical icon Bruce Springsteen and his 1980 top-10 song “Hungry Heart,” part of the inspiration for Bishop Taylor’s ministry theme.

Further information about the exhibit and opening may be requested by email to media@ladiocese.org
