A festive coffee hour has been coordinated this Sunday by Susan Joy Edwards, Becky Greenberg, Lawrence Carroll, Phillip Placenti, and Arnie Ree. Consider sponsoring coffee hour one Sunday in the month of your birthday; contact the Rev. Mel Soriano and sign up on the bulletin board in the fountain courtyard.

Children and Youth Chapel will be available at the 10.00 am service. We welcome the children and youth to the CYF Room after the opening acclamation and return during the peace. Children who come dressed in trick-or-treat costumes will receive a blessing and a treat for their journey.

Happy Birthday to all members of the congregation who are celebrating this week, especially Krystal Palma, Sharlett Rene, Evadney Edelson.

The Episcopal News presents “Nomination Report 2025,” a PDF magazine-format publication, in English and Spanish, of statements and Q&A with the three candidates for eighth bishop of Los Angeles. Publications are available here.

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a bishop for this diocese, and those who offer themselves as candidates, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gardening Ministry

Saturday, November 1

9.00 a.m. - 11.00 a.m.

Grab your gloves and join us on the lawn; the Gardening Ministry meets! Help us care for the earth. We will weed, cut, prune, fertilize, plant, mulch, and water, as well as share stories and gardening tips in good humor and fellowship. If you enjoy getting your fingernails and knees dirty, join the St. John's Gardening Ministry. Feel free to bring your favorite gardening tools!

All Saints/All Souls

Sunday, November 2

Please consider bringing pictures of loved ones passed to church next Sunday and they will be placed on the ofrenda as we celebrate Dia de los Muertos.

Election Day

Tuesday, November 4

Let us reflect on our commitment to the common good, provide others with the information they need to cast their ballot, and prepare to vote as a community. Let us model healthy, faith-inspired civic engagement so that we may be a constructive example for others.

Journey Through the BCP

Sundays, Nov. 9, 16, 23 and Dec. 7, 14, 21

11.30 a.m. to 12.15 p.m.

Attend a special six-meeting journey through the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), a cornerstone of Episcopal identity and a deep well of wisdom for worship and daily life. Especially relevant for those thinking about baptism or confirmation.

Each week, participants will gather after the 10.00 a.m. service during coffee hour to explore the history, theology, and spiritual rhythms of the Prayer Book and learn practical ways to use it as a guide for prayer, reflection, and daily devotion. Sessions will skip Thanksgiving weekend. Bring coffee, curiosity, and questions!

Food Pantry and Turkey Drive

Saturday, November 15

8.30 a.m. - 10.30 a.m.

Food Pantry distribution is scheduled for the third Saturday in November as the congregation supports the community by providing fresh produce, canned and frozen goods to families in need. The gates will open at 8.30 a.m. and volunteers will continue serving until supplies last. St. John's partners with the LA Food Bank, Seeds of Hope, and folks like you to make this vital ministry possible.

Consider a donation to the Fall Turkey Drive today! Donations are now being accepted on the website. Envelopes are also available on the Welcome Table at the back of the church. Simply drop them in the offering plate any regular Sunday leading up to the distribution on November 15.
