The Weekly Update

From the Transition Committee...

"We are grateful to everyone who completed the congregational survey. Members of the Vestry and the Transition Committee met with a consultant from Holy Cow! Consulting to review the results. We are a diverse and dynamic congregation, and our future is bright! Your Transition Committee will continue working hard to compile personal stories and everything that has been shared with us, not only through the recently completed survey but also through our sessions with Rev. Eric Law and our recent Story Day with Rev. Thomas Quijada-Discavage. Our love for St. John's is clear, and we cherish our congregational family; we will strive to bring out these feelings in A Profile of St. John's Cathedral. We look forward to sharing that with you soon!"

Art and Architecture Luncheon: Tickets NOW AVAILABLE!

Saturday, October 4

12.30 p.m.

Luncheon tickets are $50.00 and are currently available for purchase as the cathedral celebrates the 100th anniversary of our sanctuary. Please support our first Centennial Celebration Event!

"With its exterior facade patterned after the Church of San Pietro in Tuscania and its ceiling echoing that of San Miniato Basilica in Florence, the sanctuary was designed by local architect brothers Francis Pierpont Davis and Walter S. Davis. Interior appointments include a distinctive altar triptych; extensive mosaics, marble panels, stained glass, and the bishop’s hand-carved cathedra (official seat). The 1925 sanctuary was built to replace a wooden church that our parish, founded in 1890, had outgrown. St. John’s was named the diocese’s pro-cathedral in 2007."

Canterbury USC: 90th Anniversary

Sunday, September 14

10.00 a.m.

St. John’s will be filled with joy, gratitude, and community spirit as all celebrate 90 years of Canterbury USC.

Canterbury USC began at St. John’s in 1934 and has been a spiritual home for USC students for nearly a century - nurturing faith, fostering friendships, and equipping young leaders to serve in the world.

This anniversary is not just a look back, it’s a celebration of all that God is doing through Canterbury USC today. Thanks will be given for the generations of students, chaplains, and supporters who have been part of this ministry, and attendees will pray for the future God is unfolding.

Come and join the celebration! Whether you’re an alum, a current student, a longtime member of St. John’s, or simply someone who loves seeing young adults grow in faith, members would love to welcome you. Stay after the service for fellowship and refreshments as all continue the celebration together.

Honor the past, rejoice in the present, and step with hope into the future together.

Saturday, September 20

7.00 p.m.

Get ready for an unforgettable evening that will lift your heart, tap your toes, and move your spirit.

Through music and story, we’ll honor the legacy of the Spirituals—songs rooted in pain, powered by faith, and rich with history. These songs weren’t just music; they were lifelines, roadmaps to freedom, and bold acts of resistance.

You’ll hear the familiar call: “Wade in the water…”—and feel it stir your soul.

And for the first time, this spiritual journey will come alive through dance. Expect at least one stunning dance piece—perhaps more—as part of this immersive experience.

This isn’t just a concert. It’s a call to solidarity—a time to gather strength, resist the wave of cruelty sweeping the country, and stand firm in love and support for one another. It’s a space to reflect, rejoice, breathe deeply, and rise together.

This isn’t just a concert. It’s a celebration. A remembrance. A revival. REGISTER NOW
