April 14, 2024
Dear St. Giles Families,

The coming weeks are full of events, celebrations and activities so be sure to check the calendar and mark yours to attend any that you can--this year will be over before we know it.

We hope to see you at Mass, Miles and a Meal today! Thank you to Mrs. Lucas for coordinating our weekend school masses this year and all of our student readers, servers and choir members! Thank you to PTO for setting up a great community event following today's mass and the perfect weather you orderd!
Our Fine Arts Show is this Wednesday, April 17th, from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm. Join us for a gallery walk in the Art room, Intermediate hallway and Frawley lunchroom. Artwork from grades K-8 will be on display and our students in band and music will provide background music throughout the afternoon. You won't want to miss it!

Grandparents' Day is right around the corner on Friday, May 3rd. If you still need to provide grandparent email addresses, please email those to Heather Kroll and she will invite them! Details outlining the day can be found here.

Enrichment Update:
We want to extend our sincerest apologies for the delayed start of our afterschool Chess club and NASA Mad Science. We are thrilled to inform you that we will be fully up and running starting Monday, April 15, 2024, for Chess and Thursday, April 18, 2024, for Mad Science. We are eager to welcome back all our students and to kick off an exciting session of strategizing and fun! Looking forward to seeing you all next Monday and Thursday!

Upcoming Religion Assessment
This spring, Catholic schools will participate in a unique, Chicago-specific religion assessment based on the religion curriculum standards that have been articulated for Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of Chicago. All students in four-year-old preschool through Grade 8 in all schools will take part in the assessment between April 22-May 10, 2024.

Similar to assessments in other subject areas, religion assessment generates data to help teachers and school leaders better understand the strengths and weaknesses of instruction and student learning. Data from a system-wide religion assessment allows us to discern how we can work collaboratively to help students grow in knowledge about the Catholic faith in alignment with the mission of Catholic education.

Religion assessment will take place during regular school hours. All students will participate with the guidance of their teacher to assist them as needed. Students with service plans will have access to accommodations such as a read-aloud feature built into the assessment and/or having additional time to complete the assessment. Student performance on the assessment will not influence a religion grade in school. No additional preparation or engagement outside of school hours is required.

Thank you very much for your support of this effort to help us more deeply understand students’ learning, support teachers with religion instruction, and work in solidarity to grow the Catholic mission and culture of our school communities.

Have a wonderful week!
Meg

Original Works Art Fundraiser is Back!

Original Artworks is an ART fundraiser for St Giles to purchase Art supplies so students can continue to make beautiful masterpieces. You have the option of purchasing an item from a list available that contains your Lion's original artwork!

This week, K-7th graders will receive a packet from Original Artworks. Please note that Ms Krumm's 7th and 8th graders are still finishing their Artwork. We will send out another announcement once everything is completed.

Please fill out the form provided and return the ENTIRE packet (along with your student's artwork, and both order forms in the plastic sleeve) ONLY if you are purchasing items back to your student's homeroom teacher by APRIL 17th. If you decide not to purchase any items you may keep your student's Artwork.

Please note that your FACTS account will be billed if you decide to make a purchase. You will receive your student's Artwork order in May. Please contact Ms. Cronacher with any questions.

Thank you for your support!

Tax Credit Scholarships - We need your help!
There is still a chance that we can get the Tax Credit Scholarship Program back in May. If that were to happen, fundraising could begin in June to fund scholarships for the school year that starts in August. In order to maximize the chances of that happening, we need your help! We need you to call and email your legislator using this link and tell them to reinstate the Invest in Kids Act. Please take 1 minute to complete this form and show your support!

I also have two other grandchildren here that are 7 and 4. Family is everything for Bob and I, so spending time with the grandchildren is top priority for us. This summer we will be going on a family vacation with everyone to the Oregon area.
