Dear St. Giles Families,
We are gearing up for Catholic Schools week with our kickoff at a special St. Giles School Mass and Open House on Sunday, January 28th. Mass will begin at 10:30 am and the open house will immediately follow. Please join us – all are welcome!
Our Lions will be participating in the Mass as readers, altar servers and gift bearers and a current parent will share their experience with us during the reflection. Mrs. Lucas, our liturgical coordinator, is looking for students in K-8 who would like to participate by doing a reading or petition. Students will practice in church during the school day. If your child is interested, please email Mrs. Lucas directly by Tuesday, January 23rd.
Students who attend Mass in uniform will receive a special out-of-uniform pass for a designated date after Catholic Schools Week. Immediately following our Mass, current and prospective families are invited to visit our buildings during our annual open house. Teachers will be in their classrooms and our Student Ambassadors will be on hand as tour guides. We also look forward to having some young alumni back in the middle school to share their current high school experiences and current parents will be available to answer additional questions. As a reminder, this is not a time to discuss the progress of students with teachers; it is a time to celebrate the work we do and all who make the St. Giles School community a wonderful place!
Do you know of a family who might be interested in a St. Giles education? Maybe they are just beginning their school journey with a preschooler or they are looking for a different school experience for their older child – either way, we welcome them to learn more about St. Giles! Please encourage them to attend our open house on Sunday from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm to learn more about the St. Giles experience.
Following our kickoff on Sunday, we have many fun, community-building activities and celebrations scheduled for the week, from assemblies like Juice Box Heroes for our littlest Lions and Stem Magic for our older students, plus a pep rally before our student/faculty volleyball match! We are also excited about our annual Buddy Lunches, which are always a hit with our students (and mean one less lunch for you to prepare!). Click on the link below to learn more about the schedule for the week, as well as the attire for each day. And please note our all-school Mass on Wednesday, January 31st at 1:00pm where we come together as a community to celebrate our faith. Please join us if you are able!

iReady Testing
Congratulations to our Lions on their hard work during our 2nd iReady diagnostic. We are proud of our learners and can’t wait to see their growth from so far this year. We realize some students may have been absent last week during testing and have allotted additional time for those who may need it. Mrs. Wynne, our school counselor, will work with teachers to arrange for testing to be completed. To celebrate our students’ efforts, we will have a celebratory dress down day post Catholic Schools Week. Thank you to parents, as well, for all you do to support our learners during testing time and always.
Snow Day vs. eLearning
I have had some questions regarding eLearning days vs. true snow days. Each year, I have the option of building in a couple “emergency days” into the calendar that we can take as days off of school should something prevent us from a typical school day (like a snow day, burst pipe, etc) and not have to add additional learning days by removing a current day off or adding more days in June. This year, I have allotted 2 “emergency days,” one of which we took last Friday as a snow day. If we go beyond 2 emergency days, we will implement eLearning days for our Lions.
Please note: if we need to implement eLearning, it will not be pandemic eLearning. Teachers would post assignments on their webpages and Google Classroom (where applicable) and have a Zoom check in with students in the morning and mid day. We will not have students on screens all day for eLearning. Teachers will be available via email for any questions students may have throughout the day. Additional details will be shared if we need to have an eLearning day. We hope that we will not need to implement eLearning, but it is an option for us if needed. It is early in winter, and we are prepared!
Have a wonderful week,
Meg

Preschool Soccer is back!
Saturdays 8:30-9:30 AM – St. Giles school gym located in the Corrigan building
1/27, 2/3 , 2/10, (no class 2/17), 2/24, 3/2, 3/9
This casual league brings together older St. Giles students as “coaches” for a fun hour of soccer play. This is informal — designed to give the students some exercise now that cold weather season is upon us and spend a little time with friends outside of the classroom. Added bonus: Parents can socialize and get to know one another! (This is NOT a drop-off program. A parent must remain in the Corrigan building the entire time)
Register today; spots are limited. After January 2, we’ll open the sign-up to preschoolers in the parish.
