Dear St. Giles Families,
I had a great end to the week last week with our top fundraisers from Lion’s Leap, Margaret S., Addison J., and Brady J. Pieing the Principal! You can see from the picture and video below that the crowd cheered for everyone! They all had great aim. What a fun way to close out the week! Our PreK Pie the Principal will be tomorrow afternoon with Charlie S. in Mrs. Brady’s class. You can never have enough pie!

Uniform Reminders
As the weather gets colder, we ask that you review our uniform policy with your child(ren). Dennis Uniform supplies sweaters and sweatshirts for students to wear during the school day; spirit wear is only worn on designated days. 8th graders have permission to wear their class sweatshirts in school on Mondays only. The entire uniform policy can be found here.
Please note the length of your child's skirt. We have seen growth spurts and hems may need to be let down to the appropriate length of no less than 2 inches above the knee. Please use the Thanksgiving break to adjust any short skirts.
As a reminder:
Sweatshirts: Students may wear a navy monogrammed crew neck or quarter-zip sweatshirt or fleece supplied by the uniform company. No other sweatshirts may be worn. Solid color navy, black, or white cardigans may also be worn.
Trimester I
When we return from Thanksgiving break, Trimester I ends on Tuesday, November 28th. Please refer to PowerSchool and reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions regarding grades or missing assignments. We want all Lions to end the trimester strong and on a high note! Report cards will be distributed on Friday, December 1st.
Thanksgiving Break
School offices will be closed and the Weekly View will be on hiatus during the Thanksgiving break. The office reopens on Monday, November 27th. The Weekly View will resume on Sunday, December 3rd. On behalf of the entire St. Giles faculty and staff, we wish all of our families a safe and restful Thanksgiving holiday break with friends and family.
Have a wonderful week,
Meg

Christmas Card Contest
Every year, St. Giles School sends a Christmas card, designed by students, to our generous donors. The contest is now underway! Any student may submit an original color drawing depicting a Religious themed Christmas scene. A prize of a $25 gift card will be awarded.
- The drawing must be on white 8 ½ x 11 paper.
- Drawings must be submitted to the office by Wednesday, November 30th.
-
Be sure the student’s name and homeroom are marked clearly on the BACK of the submission in pencil so that it does not bleed through.
- Only one drawing per student will be accepted.
The deadline for entries is Monday, December 4, 2023. The prize will be awarded after the winning design is selected by a panel of faculty members.

Students can bring their donations to their homerooms, where bins for collections will be available. Don't hesitate to get in touch with Mrs. Kent or Mrs. Wynne, moderators of Ambassadors, with any questions. Click on the link below for a list of requested items. St. Giles Enrichment and Infinity Arts present A Year with Frog and Toad
Adapted from the three-time-Tony-nominated Broadway hit comes A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS. Based on Arnold Lobel's well-loved books, the jazzy, upbeat score bubbles with melody. Part vaudeville, part make-believe, and all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout the seasons.
This whimsical show follows two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog, and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons along the way. Throughout the year, two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special.

Teacher Spotlight
Mrs. Jennifer Jawicki, 6th grade ELA, Social Studies, and Religion
BA and MAED, Dominican University
Years at St. Giles: 8 years
Favorite Book and/or Movie: A fun read for me is the Harry Potter series, manga books, or historical fiction. A more serious read for me would be Shakespeare.
Favorite Vacation Spot: I love a small town with hidden gems.
Fun Fact: I have two cats who feature often in my LA test questions!
I have been a teacher at St. Giles for 8 years, and I have grown to see this community like another family. I love running to de-stress and relax with a good book at the end of the day. My husband and I enjoy spending time in Wisconsin for family trips and going to water parks!

Upcoming Public Forums discussing social ministry outreach
to Austin residents from St. Catherine–St. Lucy campus
Since late August, more than 350 people from our community have attended public forums to learn about the findings of a feasibility study into whether the former rectory at St. Catherine-St. Lucy can be repurposed to serve, in the words of the Renew My Church outcomes, “as a base for powerful ministry outreach to the West Side of Chicago…supported by the entire Oak Park Catholic community.”
The forums thus far have resulted in enthusiastic support of the vision, as well as the addition of more than a dozen new volunteers to lend their expertise and skill as the project moves forward. This social ministry initiative has also drawn interest from the broader faith community of Oak Park and River Forest.
If you’ve intended to come to a forum but have been unable to do so, please plan on attending one of the two scheduled in the coming weeks. Feel free to bring family members and friends.
Sunday, November 12, 11:30 am – Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, 744 Fair Oaks, Oak Park
Thursday, November 16, 7 pm – Pilgrim Congregational Church, 508 Lake, Oak Park
Please register for the meeting most convenient for you by clicking here or using the QR code. Preregistration will enable us to prepare each venue for the number of people we are expecting to attend. (We urge you to come even if you are unable to register ahead of time; we always anticipate additional attendees.)
Questions? Please contact Feasibility Study Team co-chair Dan Doody at dan@doody.com.
